Amen on the convex. I wonder what a belt sander set up would run? Some guys use Harbor freight tools. I will go for something a little more substantial. I am figuring that the sander and belts will be close to 200 by the time I am done. The thing is Horn Dog gets a small penitence of pay for what he can do. Shoot him a pm and see what it will run. I am not sure where you are but he is in GA. I've thought about that, and may well do it. For the larger stuff though, like the DF or choppy, would be good to have a better system for maintaining than my strop. Maybe paper wheels... I thought about paper wheels but that is more for V grind. I like the convex for large blades like no other. The strop will do a great job for maintaining a convex unless you really damage it. A convex is a lot easier to push the steel back into alignment too, where a V you generally loose the steel.

Just remember, if you ever hoped the Yard would produce it, best not to put up pics/drawings/detailed designs.

Jared said that you could maintain a convex very easily on a paper wheel system, but you couldn't reprofile to one easily.

I thought paper wheels were good for maintaining a convex

Send me a pic Sumo, My new bladder can handle it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> That is a good one! So the trip you are going on, I read a bit on it. What kind of trip is it? School, work, pleasure?

Guy by the handle KalEl on BF uses paper wheels to put convex edges on his blades. I had hoped to pick up an SOD from him (but it went off on fleabay). The paper wheels didn't make it the prettiest, but I thought if it were stripped it would work well.
