I still need to do some research as to what performs well, but I was planning on making all but one design out of a laminated S7/L6 over something with similar edge properties to 52100.
First design, solid S7 or L6 preferably, although I have D2, M4 and 1095 written down as alternatives. .5 inch stock (see my name), 11" from tip to handles, 8" handle including pommel. First inch unsharpened, but beveled towards the front so as to provide a sort of prybar. Portion of the spine could be sharpened/serrated/made into a saw. Full convex grind for the entire knife, I believe I had a 4-5" tall blade.
Second design, Scaled down version of first, 4-5" handle, 2" blade height, rope cutter on spine, .33 thick, again, first half inch beveled for use as a prybar.
The rest were various sizes of sheepsfoot/wharncliff blades.

You blade idea sounds great.
On the trip, IIRC, it is DC, Gettysburg, and where else?

Just Gettysburg and DC, we're going to see the National Museum of the Marine Corps and the Holocaust Museum, Arlington, the Tomb of the Unknowns, and are having a tour of the battleground from Charlie Fennel. Then we go into DC and see all the monuments the first night, then have one or two days of museums. We would have gotten a tour of Marine One because the leading teacher's brother-in-law is a pilot, but they return from Ireland/Scotland the day we leave.

And yes, it's only in teasing. I know Sumo wouldn't ever be willing to part with this set up. He just likes to tease me by posting it every now and again. "Ha ha! You don't HAVE an M9 OR such a sweet rig!" It's maddening!
