hey Todd did you say you were gonna try and get into the academy too?

I almost became a Honolulu police officer. I was in Hawaii when I got out of the service, moved back to California and couldn't find a job. So I moved back to Hawaii. For some reason Law Enforcement was a last resort for me. I was about to start the Police Acedemy when I was given another job offer. If I were to do it over again, I would have gone to the police academy.

Good luck to both of you.

If I can get this weight off me, I'm already in. Didn't get to go this year, but I'm working hard to get down to where I can go. Sheriff is going to let me work in the jail on days and go to academy at night. If I can take doing that for 7 months, I'll be ok

Thanks Tony! The one I'll be going to is more laid back, it is geared more toward people that are working and trying to start another career. Still a very good school, but not the "in your face" school that a lot of them are. Still have to meet the state standards, including physical standards, but still...

You can do it. Swallow your pride and do what you're told, everything else should be cake. I'll bet the rest of the class will have a hard time keeping up with YOU!

It helps that I'm already working for the sheriffs dept, so I know more procedure and stuff that a newbie won't know. What'll kill me is my age and my weight. Trying to take off the weight, but the age I can't change.

My LT that just retired didn't go through academy til he was 46, so it can be done.

I know the Marine Corps is not the Police Academy. My recruiter told me to just do what I was told, and that really was all it took to get me through 13 weeks of boot camp. If you can lose the attitude, then you'll be fine. The acedemic portion was toughest for me.

I wish I had joined the service when I was younger. Had more important things in my life back then though, and now I regret it. But yeah, academy isn't basic training by a long shot.
