Now understand, I am NOT a martial artist. But I have played around with the reverse grip style of knife handling, where the blade is on the bottom, edge forward. It CAN be AWSOME. You punch and cut at the same time. and you can reverse it with the blade up, edge down and it works like a Tigers claw. Actually it started as an Asian utility blade. It IS great for cutting vines and stuff, and you wouldn't believe how it will remove a corn cob from the stalk unless you've tried it.

I've been kinda looking for a Benchmade Rift, not that I can afford one right now but I'd like to pick one up if I could get a decent price on one.

A Rift or a Griptillian may be the way I go. Just want to try a Benchmade to see what the fuss is about.

Last summer I used a CRKT Ringer on corn and it worked, but was to small to get all the way through a lot of th stalks.

I've got a full size and mini grip, and really like them. SMOOTH and lightweight. I have the modified sheepsfoot ones.

Back in my high school days, I used to carry an old no-name hawksbill knife, just for the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> factor. Loved it, but it wasn't very practical.

I hope to get a Spyderco and a Benchmade before summer, or maybe even pick one of them up at Blade.

I can see how see how it would make for a great utility blade but for the same reasons it is particulary efficient for self defense. I guess a limb is a limb.

YUP! And the shape helps it "slice into" the cut, not slide off like most conventional blades.

I don't want to ever use it, but if someone is putting us in a situation where we are afraid of "loss of life or limb", it's all bets are off. I've done it once before (didn't have to actually use it) so I know I can do it again.
