My little cousin's birthday is coming up and I'm thinking about a hiking/camping book for him. He is going to be 13 so a good read will do him good. What do you guys suggest?

Depending on his skill level here are some I like
Northern Bushcraft (re-released as Bushcraft) by Mors Kolchanski (sp?)
Survive by Les Stroud
The survival handbook by Ray Mears
Ultimate guide to wilderness living by John & Geri McPherson
Edible wild plants by Thomas S. Elias & Peter A. Dykeman
I will see what else I can think of

I guess the question now is how many books can you afford?

I remember a book that I read in middle school, it wasn't exactly a guide on how to survive, but from what I remember, most of the survival skills were more or less servicable techniques. It's called Hatchet, I cannot recall the author though. It's about a boy named Brian who is stranded in Alaska after a plane crash, and he manages to survive until he gets rescued because of a survival hatchet he got from his mom as a gift. It was a good read for me at about that age, but it is definitely a story, not a survival guide as much.
