I figured I would snap a pic and start a discussion thread here since I know there more than a few dogs who are familiar with the ~.22 caliber "pea shooter" firearms. I also wanted to emphasize the use of air rifles, slingshots, heavy duty squirt guns, or just having a really wicked rock throwing arm. I think these tools may get overlooked a bit when it comes to all of the hyper tactical info we may come find on othe gear forums. I think most of us can appreciate the honest and practical approach to gear that our community seems to adhere to. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The reason this thread came to mind... I was over at my folks house yesterday and noticed a couple squirrels out having a great time in the back yard trees. I will usually see one or two out there during the day when I'm over so no big deal. I pay them very little mind but I know sooner or later they make a big mess of something. Every couple years or so I have a minute to kill (nice pun) and notice a pile of crap at the doorway so I'll grab my pellet gun and sooner or later knock one off. So yesterday I see two of them and it's no big deal and would usually forget about them until the mess shows up somewhere. But just before I turn around, in the corner of my eye I notice more movement. Two more of them! And sure enough another one runs up to join in on the fun!! Five fairly nice sized squirrels "justa" plucking away at the the trees. So five is just way too many!

So out comes the tools! 10/22 (maybe) and a Marksman 0035 with cheapo air rifle scope. Hope they enjoyed the romp! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I would love to see what you guys are using and get a discussion going about air rifles and whatever else seems to "get the job done". Ive been thinking about even adding a slingshot or two to the collection.

As I have stated here before, my favorite Skunk killing tool is my RWS Diana model 45 .177 "Adult air rifle" I say adult cause a kid would have trouble lifting the thing! At one time I had a Beeman ss4 air rifle scope on it but took it off to put on my Colt AR15 A3. I have killed a total of 9 Skunks with it with the longest shot being about 30 yards. I hit him in the back of the head, spine shot cause he could only drag his hind legs and couldn't spray! finished him off with one more between the eyes. Those things (air rifles) can be pretty potent!

Had to correct this, I have killed a total of 10 Skunks. I had to go check a paper Patty made up.

I just received a new Ruger Air Hawk, but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I have killed several possums and rabbits with my son's old Daisy 880 powerline though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I love my Ruger 10/22 carbine with synthetic stock and a Simmons 3-9x32 Truplex scope. It is reliable as hell and blast to fire.

I used to sit out on the river in Louisiana and pic the tree rats out of the trees on the other side. I'd paddle over and collect them later for gumbo. Seems like the water between us made them feel a little safer.

Regular rats would have had more meat on them. Actually when I first read it the TREE part of it didn't register and I had to read it again. I mean I know you're at least part Cajun but regular rats! Not unless I had to or it was presented to me as a dish that the others were eating as well.

I ate some rats in Thailand. It was one of those "presented to me as a dish other were eating" situations. Taste like chicken <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Rat isn't bad, it depends on how it was raised. I wouldnt eat sewer rat... ever...

I have a Crossman .177 cal break open pellet rifle. It's only supposed to put out 1000 fps, but on cooler days it has exhibited ballistic crack, so it has shot faster than 1200 fps.

I also field a Savage Model II .22 LR bolt action repeater. I mounted a Redfield Tracker on top of it, and I've taken several prairie dogs out past 300 yards with it. I try not to hit then with it past that range, because it doesn't reliably kill with the first hit, but it's a tack driver, no doubt.

My Izhmash .22lr Biathlon Basic....she wears a Leupy 3-9 EFR (which I've updated with M1 turrets for longer range).

Toggle Bolt Action...identical to those seen / used on Biathlon rifles.

This rifle is called the "Biathlon Basic", as it is intended to be scoped and is not meant for actual biathlon competitions.

These little rifles are insanely accurate.
