Well I truly hope no one is offended by my pictures but this is the reality of life and about making stupid choices. Monday night at about 10:00 PM I was on the Yard Forum chatting with Steely and another member, also getting ready to post some pictures on the canoe trip I took with my daughter and review my War Dog experience on the trip. The phone rings about 10:15 PM and my younger daughter asked if I could put her sons new bike together, I expressed my feeling about it being late and that I was getting ready to head off to bed in just a bit after I got done my Yard activity. This was a very strong request so I grabbed my WD and went to the garage where the bike was stored. I dragged the box out and got the contents out of the box. The next few sentences is where I confess my stupidity as to using the wrong tool for the job. Once I got the bike out of the box I needed to get the plastic zip ties cut away so the parts could be freed from the frame. Using my trusty WD to slice through two zip ties, I came to a stubborn third where additional leverage and force were required and this is where things just went to hell in a hand basket real quick. The zip tie apparently did not want to be cut by my WD. I flipped the blade over and tried an upward slice and this was when said zip tie made a slip down sending my WD heading towards my left forearm. When I felt what I had done I immediately applied direct pressure to the wound. While at the same time watching blood spurt out onto the wall and on to the floor of our breezeway. I called my older daughter to grab a towel and hurry, I think when she saw the expression on my face and the urgency in my voice she new I had screwed up. The following pictures show my trip to the ER. I will say this truly got me head of the line privilege .
This image is after they got the bleeding stopped. I had cut the vain about four inches above the wrist. The docs thought I not only had cut the vain but had some artery damage do to an issue of profuse spurting. A second doctor was called in to help stop the bleeding while the other stitched up the vain. Good news, once the bleeding was stopped no artery damage .

This second is a close up of the damage.

The repair job.

So did I learn anything? Well the right tool for the job should have been a pair of wire cutters or something to that liking.
I have kicked myself and called myself names for the last three days. I can not swim or lift for the next two weeks . Three hours in the ER being worked on and a wallet that is $150.00 bones lite. The initial cut did not hurt that much but the $150.00 cut from my wallet, that hurt.

I'm super glad you're ok...but that's awesome!

You can see the blade profile in that closeup picture.

Takeaway: Don't help others after 10pm.

SF, I hope you have a speedy recovery! Glad no serious serious damage occured. I will show you a pic of my destroyed foot from two years ago and perhaps this will help others not make the dumb mistake I did ( not trying to steal your thunder ). Ok so Fathers day two years ago. Me and my bro and a few buddies go swimming at a hole in the river we like. I had already cut myself decent in there once. Well I was dumb enough for a second time to not wear shoes. Anyway we see a snake chilling by a little rapid area near where we are swimming. Now I like snakes but not were I am swimming. So I get on the bank with a stick and my cousin is wading the water. The snake starts to move away from me so I hop back in the water and feel a sensation like something cold and thin whipping my foot. Pulled my foot out and this is what I saw.

You know as I was reading it was actully giving me a light feeling from my knee's down. I hate foot injuries and I've had a few.
