I was cleaning out the messages on my phone at work today and came across several that were from my friend who died from brain cancer a few months ago. It was really heart wrenching to hear his voice saying: "Guess I'll talk to you tomorrow."

Reminded me of the struggles his wife and children are going through. Reminded me of how fragile life is. Reminded me of the need to say I love you to my wife and kids more often--you never know when it will be the last time in this life.

It also made me reflect on the funeral, when a bird flew into the window when the preacher started to talk and the smile that brought to my face, feeling that my friend was there, seeing the humor in that, and laughing along with my smile.

Go hug your wife, your husband, your girl or boyfriend, your children, your parents, or whoever you have close to you right now. Tell them what they mean to you. And take a few moments to ponder the miraculous blessing of life and the wonderful gift we have in each moment of the day.

That is a beautiful message Dogtired. It is way too easy to take the ones we love for granted until it's too late. I tell my wife that I love her every day, but I know that I need to add many more people to that list.

VERY good post DT! You are spot on. They say familiarity leads to a tendency to not tell those we love that we DO Love them. We just assume (YUP, THAT WORD) that they know it. And they I am sure do, but it is still nice to hear those three words from time to time. Don't YOU (Me, us) like to hear them ourselves?

Thanks DT.

I remember you talking about him, Please again I give my condolences to you and his family.

I lost three good old friends recently. You never know when you see or talk to a friend if that is the last time, especially at my age. Only one of the 3 were the hugging type. Some old crusty war horses never let the guard down, but their eyes betray them. Never be afraid to show your love and express it often.

Thank you for that post, a great sentiment and a wonderfully positive perspective on an otherwise grim situation <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
