My wife and I went for a week of hiking in the Alps this summer so I figured I'd inflict some of my photos on you guys :P We hiked from one small village to another in Val D'Annivers. It's not a bad idea they have for tourism. The local government tourist office sells a package where you stay in small hotels in skiing areas and hike from one village to the next. They supply a lunch and transport your luggage on the bus that goes between the towns. Most of the people involved in the tourist trade, like barmaids and people who work in the hotels, speak a little English, otherwise most people speak French but I got by okay most of the time with my terrible high school French and smiling and shrugging a lot.

Sorry, no knife pictures. Although as far as I can figure Switzerland now has a relatively liberal national law where most knives are legal you don't see people walking around town with exposed knives so I figured better safe than sorry and didn't strap my Scrapizashi to my pack.

In the top photo you can just barely see a little hotel on the mountain over the little valley on the right handside. We ran into some heavy lightning the next day and cut our day short at noon and stayed there. Fortunately we had stayed in a hut the night before so we had a fair amount of our stuff with us (on my back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />). I guess it was built in the late 19th century and looked like nothing had been fixed since then. That was unusual in Switzerland where most buildings and equipment seem pretty well maintained. I had the impression the hotel had been on the verge of bankruptcy and closing a number of times. I'll throw up some more photos next week if there's interest.

Beautiful pics! I was there as a kid. My father was in the USAF stationed in Wiesbaden Germany. We traveled thru Europe and spent time in the Alps as well. I hope to take my wife there someday. Thanks for sharing.
