So, I've never sharpened a SY or SR knife. My Mini Mojo has been resharpened a couple of times but that was done by a friend I rarely see. I am not overly adept at sharpening anything...I've managed to figure out how to use a sharpmaker ok but that's about the extent of it.

I've read that many folks prefer to use a strop for sharpening these blades. What I'm looking for from my fellow dogs is kind of an idiot's guide to sharpening these knives. What equipment do I need and what method to employ. Please remember I'm a complete novice so go slow <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks!

Well your going to here a lot of diff answers, but what type of grind o you have on the blade. If its a convexed edge then you want to strop it. If not just use a diamond flat stone.
The way i find the angle is i lay the blade on the surface of the stone and tilt the blade until the cutting edge is flat to the stone. THen i make my pass`s on the stones.Keeping the angle consistent. Not a gret way but i can usally get my knives working sharp.
Now for stropping, I just got my Boss Jack and Im in need of some direction there, as to this is my first convexed edge.

you can build an adjustable sharpening wedge for your stones. i find that is one of the most precise methods.

if my knives are really dull or if they need to be reprofiled i do that on a belt sander starting with an appropriate grit, then work my way up. but for touch-ups i use dmt stones.

I have another belt sander now too that is pretty cool.

A guy could use a few stones and a strop for similar results. The concept it the same. Hold a steady angle.

For stones I prefer the diamond route.

Diamond stones then ceramic stick then loaded strop. SR-101 takes a wicked edge!
