Dan and moderators I have a complaint. Several times in my participation on this board I have gone through the effort of a lengthy post with pictures added etc. and went to post it and have not been able to post it because it has apparently timed out or something.

I am not a computer tech and it takes me quite a while sometimes to articulate my thoughts and add pics etc. To go through this process and then to get a message that your entry is invalid or whatever the message is is very frustrating.

I have not run into this on other sites. So I assume it has something to do with the administration or hosting of your site. I know there are ways to put a reply in my text edit and then cut paste to the posting but I don't always remember to do this. When you pour your heart out into what you feel is a relevant post and then you get done you can't post it it sucks. You don't feel like doing it all over again!

Been in the same situation. Learned that I should do long posts on word first and and then cut and paste, then add pictures. Have even salvaged a post by copying the locked post to word, then back to a new post. Hope this helps.

Unless you have your browser set to clear all caches as soon as you leave a page, you can just hit the back button and your words will right where you left them. Then you can just hit the submit button since the page refreshed again.

You can always copy the entire post before hitting submit in case it disappears too.

This are fixes for the symptoms, not the real issue though. I too have felt your aggitation.

It's happened to me as well. JJ and the others have good suggestions. What usually do is type some, hit continue, type some more, hit continue again...you get the idea. Then when I'm finally done I hit OK, submit and I'm done.

Oh and Skorpyd, send a PM to ColdOne, he's a whiz with/about things like this. IF he can't fix it, he can at least, I am sure, explain the reason to you.

Thanks for the hints guys. It happens just infrequently enough that I forget how to deal with it when it happens. Then I get agitated.

I don't know if even Chris can fix this; it may need Dan's IT man. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I thought that as well Tom, but figured Chris would be a good start. Guess I should have said to PM Chris AND Dan.

I have come up with a creative solution! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Truncate your post <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Ok, Ok...so that's not so helpful. However, you could always break it up into several mini-posts....and tie your story together that way??

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. I'll start a post at work and then get busy and have to come back to it. I've learned by now that when this happens I just have to copy and past the text, back out and repost. From my experience, some forum software allows the admins to set the time it takes for a post to time out. If this is possible in UBB (never used it,) I'd like to see the setting changed.

if i remember correctly there is a way to change it in some forums but i doubt it's in the mod permissions. would have to be in the administrator area. and there's a bunch of stupid settings in the something or other script that controls how php responds as well but is a pain to find depending on your host. My actually be in there. called a php.ini file or something...

best is as mentioned. type long posts in a text editor and then copy or paste. I always copy text to to my clipboard before posting just in case it doesn't pull back up with the back bottom.
