and these refractive wobble changes are happening very fast and constantly.

...And with the critters so small, it's necessary to use several times life size magnification...

using the 1:1 lens with a 2x converter and a couple extension tubes to get in super close...

You need to stop the aperture waaaayyy down, to deal with the super shallow depth of field...
