I've got a brand new Scrapivore that came to me with a dull edge. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I've attempted to sharpen it following the existing edge without much success.<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />
I'm thinking that a good re-profiling is necessary to get it as sharp as I want. Any ideas on the best way to go about doing this?

1. Belt grinder.
2. Skill with quality stones or a guided sharpening system and patience.
3. Contact scrapyard and tell them what you want. I would wager they will deliver.

If there is an issues with your knife...please send it in so we can correct it. I will make it right.

I just put a mirror polished edge on my 511. Scrapyard's steel is some seriously tough stuff. It was as hard as I've ever had to work on a knife. She's all polished up now and I used her to chop up some branches today working in the yard. The edge didn't flinch she's as sharp now as when I finished stropping her. I used an Edge Pro then a leather strop with compounds. I'm guessing it will be a long time before I have to sharpen her on stones again. This SR-101 is some high grade stuff and I'm likin it....

I reprofiled my 711 put a 20 deg on each side with a little smith guided set. I then strop it with conpond. It's shaving sharp now. I just got a 311 from the ganzaa and that thing was shaving sharp out of box. But I don't know if I like the angle. I'm going to use it as I'd for now and see how it proformes. If I don't like how it slices ill go with a 15 deg per side nice low shoulders. Then it will scream at you.

Dan, I know you stand behind your blades and I certainly appreciate it. I'd rather not send this one in right now if I can help it though. I've put some more time in working on the edge today and it's a lot sharper now. I need more practice working on edges anyways..... I'm thinking that I'm in need of a good bench stone, all I've got right now is a diamond rod, a leather strop and fine grit sandpaper.

I'm looking at the coarse diamond 11" stone from Smith's, does anybody have experience with these or anything like it?

AFF. I use a coarse Smith 6 inch diamond hone for my main sharpening. Then I go to a Spyderco Medium ceramic stone, then finish up on a DMT fine hone. Works for me.

I would recommend DMT extra coarse or coarse for re-profiling. Cuts SR77 and SR101 relatively quickly.
