I have been wondering... did people who already owned full auto firearms have to register their firearms when the restricted those?

lazi, I can't think of a single jurisdiction where registration of full auto firearms BY THE FEDS was not required. From what I have read, ANY fully automatic firearm or suppressor WILL be registered with the Feds. Matter of fact, you can not buy either one without FIRST registering it with them. Then IF they give their approval you can take possession of it depending upon your local laws.

gotcha... just wasnt sure how full auto was handled back in the day. if a guy who purchased a FA firearm before any restriction can about did he/she have to register that firearm. or are there still FA firearms out there in a safe somewhere that never had to registered.

all that FA stuff was a little bit before my time...

Ah, now I understand. I can't say about Pre class III firearms. Believe it or not that was probably before my time. MB, any thoughts on this?

my understanding on the full auto deal is that those who owned them before the GCA required registration had a grace period to get registered without having to pay the $200 transfer tax. Nowadays if you "discover" an unregistered weapon, the paperwork to establish provenance is supposedly a nightmare and the chance of "unfortunate complications" in your legal freedoms is high.
