If you changed the colour of the dirt to a shade of red you may as well be in the far west here....!!!!! Even the vehicles and scorpions are the same...

Thanks for the kind words.

The butterflies are actually gathering nutrients like that. More can be read here on Mud puddling

Temperatures could range from 90 to 105 Fahrenheit with the humidity going nuts as well.

Thanks, I was surprised the Mantis actually turned its head for the photo

You mean to the East of us Heading West would bring us to the Kalahari/Namibian Desert. IE, Red sand

I had many more pictures, but alas, we had a bugler and they took the computers with most of my pictures on them.

This was just after the rain fell in the Kalahari:

Yes... EAST of you.... And yes our taste in vehicles does seem better than average mate... What kind of reptile is that ???? I just spent a week away and was plain amazed not to have seen a snake, 'tis the season for them here but I suspect the eagles and hawks have been giving them a pretty hard time.

Andy

It is called a Puff Adder locally. Species Britis Arietans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitis_arietans

They are know to look lazy and fat. But they are all muscle and people usually step on them due to their camouflage resulting in bites.

They are also know to bite through their own lower jaw to get to people when they are caught behind the head so real care needs to be taken with them.

The Black Mamba is our most aggressive snake.

Here is an interesting video on the Black Mamba.
