I've been collecting a variety of knives, but mostly the "bushcraft" type (woods/camp knives) lately which I have really been enjoying during my time in the woods, or backyard (same thing for me). I love the reliability of the Busse-kin knives, and especially the value of the SY knives. I hear tell Dan doesn't take requests or suggestions for new knife designs, but if I could design a SY bushcraft knife, it would be a Hairy Carry-like uncoated 4" blade, a usable choil (if necessary), and ergonomic mudder handles. Now THAT would be a knife!

Dan does certainly listen to suggestions, so speak-up!
If you put enough energi into your efforts to make Dan listen, then it may happen. Just ask Dog Tired.
The 1311 is a result of Dan taking in the barks of the Yard dogs.
How would the knife you describe above differ from a stripped 411?

The 411 is exactly what I imagined when I read his description.

I do like the look of the 411, and hope to get one when when it (hopefully) becomes available soon. However, while it appears to be a good knife, it's not ideal for bushcraft. The blade is too thick and a bit too long, and the square choil is apparently for looks (see 1311, etc). What would be closer to idea is the Mud Puppy LE design with a 3.75-4" blade of .15-.17" thickness, no choil (ideal), elf choil (Rodent Solution) or a usable choil (Rodent 4). Also, an exposed tang end (to pound on) would minimize damage to the mudders.
Oh Dan, if you're listening to the howling of the dogs, remember how popular the Hairy Carry LE was for Swamp Rat, but I think SY could do better. Maybe you could find some INFI scraps in the yard!

Ideal for bushcraft is a very subjective term. My ideal bushcraft knife is the 711. In order to get exactly what you want, go the custom way.
With the 411 recently released, I think it will be a long time before we will see something similar. And your description is rather close to the 411...

The choil on the 411 is not just for looks.

With the 411 coming out, that may be the most I can hope for now. If the bushcraft design I described was to take shape, I agree that it would likely be sometime in the distant future. I always like to be surprised by what I find here in the Yard, so I'll keep watching...

BTW the 411 is not what thick. 3/16" I have the 511(same thickness), and I would not ever want that knife to be thinner, for hard use.
A stripped 411 with a nice convex job to the edge may be just the right thing for you?!
I do have a feeling, that the next SYKCO offer will be a brute of a knife...

Thanks, RN, Good to see you here. I've enjoyed your bushcraft knife reviews elsewhere. I see that you appreciate quality knives! I wish the War Dog was still in production, but I missed that boat...along with any other 4-5" INFI SY blades. Hopefully Jerry allows Dan the use of some INFI in the near future.

You on BF? Different user name? I'm always blabbing about my Koyote's! "Oh, there so good. Oh, what a grind. Oh, the handle ergos.." I'm kind of a pathetic fanboy I guess! The War Dog is an easy find on BF and rarely at a mark up. She is a fatty though (full 1/4"!!), so may not be your cup of tea. Only time I notice it is food prep though. The grind is just great for me. That and the Becker are the only 5" knives I like really.
