My wife and I have been wanting to learn archery for sometime and finally got going.

[Linked Image from i432.photobucket.com]

Got her a bow/arrow package for Christmas and one for me about 1.5 months ago. My 8 yr old will be starting a class soon too- so we hope to have it be a family activity.

It's been a hoot so far. I took a lesson a couple years ago and did ok- but when I was talking with the folks about buying my bow I said I would like to go recurve and hunt at some point I got lined up with instinctive shooting.

At fist I thought "If I practice, I'll be ready to hunt in the fall maybe." Then I started shooting...oh lord! Instinctive is a different animal! Then the plan became "I'll be hunting in 2 years!" I've probably shot like 7 times and am improving- we got the target on Sunday for the basement, it's super close but I figure will help.

I'm not good, but I'm having a lot of fun! grin

OH NO NOT THE EVIL ASSAULT ARROWS! AARGH. First firearms, and they weren't quite enough for this mild man gone mad dog killer! wink grin

Actually when I was younger I had a nice re curve and really enjoyed shooting it. I took first place at boy scout camp with a bow one year. It IS a lot of fun. Glad you all have something you can enjoy as a family. It will make the sport more enjoyable and bring Y'all closer together.

Nice looking bow Rich. What is the draw weight and are the limbs bolted on?

Yep, they are bolted on. It's 40# and they said I'm pulling a few more with my length. I think I'm going to get the 45#, but I had a shoulder surgery years ago and need to go slowly and be careful because the shoulder is weaker.

Compound bows are nice, but a re curve is just so pretty in my eyes.

I love shooting bows. It can be addictive though. I hunt with a compound but I like to shoot my recurves and long bows.

I'm more drawn to the simplicity of the recurves...that being said, the power of the compounds is tempting!

I wish my basement was bigger, but it's great being able to pop down and shoot a 100x. I just came up from practicing and seems like a solid way to drill my anchor and releases.

Very cool. I have been wanting to do the same getting my family in to archery. We shoot old school recurves at my father in laws house and I was bit by the archery bug.
