Legislation to Ban “Assault Weapons” Pending in Louisiana House!

Friday, April 27, 2007

The Legislature will convene for its 2007 Regular Session on Monday, April 30.

State Representative Cedric Richmond (D-New Orleans) has introduced House Bill 869, which would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them "assault weapons") and ammunition magazines. HB 869 affects every firearm modified to conform with the now-extinct fClinton Gun-Ban plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever.

Like the failed Clinton Gun-Ban that sunset in 2004, this bill is about demonizing certain firearms based on how they look, not about crime fighting. But unlike the previous federal law, which banned the manufacture and sale of many commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms to civilians after the effective date of the act, HB 869 goes much further. HB 869 would require current owners of such firearms to register their firearms with the State Police, obtain and renew a license annually to keep them, restrict how and where they may be used or transported, and allow the State Police to inspect private homes for compliance. HB 869 has been referred to the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee.

Please contact the committee members below next week in Baton Rouge and urge them to oppose HB 869:

If the NRA is as big in LA as it is in GA, the bill is DOA.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

There are probably more guns here than in GA, but people are probably less involved in state politics here.

They just never learn. Let’s hope this doesn't pass.

We just beat all the AWBs here in OH because we got state wide preemption now.

Sounds like something the NRA needs to get a hold of. That sounds like a clear violation of your rights. A blanket law that allows warrantless entry just because you own guns is a violation of our civil rights. I am almost to the point we need a call to arms and call for a new government. They only do what they want and get rich off of us. They have thrown the Bill of Rights out the door and have no idea what our original father of this country wanted. We vote and nothing changes. We write in and complain but it falls on deaf ears. I beileve we are heading to a time in this country that the people will have to make a stand and take back our right. I love my country but fear my government.

Amen to that. If this bill goes threw then i think many other states mite try and copy or do the same. I have a feeling that something big is gonna happen soon. With gas prices going up and bush trying to keep the war going ppl are gonna get pretty upset. Here in my town gas is almost up to 3.40 a gal.
