I love the Fenix lights. I have an L2P(2AA) and an L1P(1AA). They are the equivalent of Scrapyard with the most bang for the Buck. The coolest thing about them is the L2P has interchangeable body's so you can change the longer 2AA mosel to the shorter 1AA model or even the CR123 short as the AA but bright as the 2AA
but very expensive batteries model. I have a spare L1( body but I still need a CR123 body. Some other cool accessories are the Tag crenelated bezel and coulered lens. The quality of parts are very good with glass lenses and high quality LED's with the P models having superior bin numbers.

There are newer models now than the L1P and L2P but the only ones different are the Cree lights which are incredibly powerful but expensive. A CR123 cree light from Fenix is a true pocket rocket. It is expensive for a Fenix but cheap for a
comparable cree light.

They also make exellent small folding knives. I have the KM2 model and it is awesome. It has G10 handles and is a liner lock with a nice spear point and the same very good coating they use on their lights.

I have the Fenix L1D-CE and the L2D-CE and I LOVE them!!! OMG, I love them sooo much!...

For the "budget buy", you can't go wrong with the "NEW VERSION" of the Inova X1!!! (I like the old lensed style for other uses, but...) The new style is a great all-arounder... I even EDC one, do to it's GREAT battery life!

YES!!!... The head is interchangable between the L1D-CE and L2D-CD... The chip knows the "burst mode" (90 or 135 lumens) based upon the voltage input: 1~1.5 = 90 lumens burst OR 2~3 = 135 lumens...

I own both and they are GRRREAT!...

IMHO, The Fenix L2D-CE is the absolute best flashlight for the money and covers just about all your bases in one flashlight! Hoorah!

Other than the fact that I won't touch those POS 3v 123a batteries with a ten-foot pole!... IMHO, they suck! If you do the math, they are VERY VERY EXPENSIVE when you figure out the COST/amp hour!... As opposed to the extreamly common and cheap AA's: alkaline, NiMH, etc... cheap cheap cheap!

Like I said... Just my two cents...

I use a pelican M6 a LOT. My cheap source of CR123a batteries is ebay. End up getting them for a little over $1 each. They have been working just great as well.

I've looked at a lot of those, they all seem very nice but I wanted something without batteries, just in case! So I opted for this; Freeplay model:
[Linked Image from i14.tinypic.com]
very bright in 5 led mode or good enough in 3 led mode. You can crank it either way (good for lefties) and it only takes 30 seconds for a good charge, more for longer and it lasts great in storage. I put on those round black cushions for extra safety.

Just went to the Fenix site, and got some specs

[color:"red"]Fenix Digital L2D CE

* Utilizes a Cree 7090 XR-E LED
* Two modes of output, selected by turning the bezel (patented)
[color:"yellow"]* General Mode: 9 lumens (55hrs) -> 40 lumens (10.5hrs) -> 80 lumens (4hrs) -> SOS
* Turbo Mode: 135 lumens (2.4hrs) -> Strobe
* Digitally Regulated for Constant Brightness
[color:"yellow"]* Uses two 1.5V AA ( Alkaline, NiMH, Lithium ) batteries (not included), inexpensive and widely available
* 14.7cm (L) x 2.1cm (D)
* Made of aircraft grade aluminum
* Durable Type III hard anodized finish
* 56-gram weight (excluding batteries)
* Water-resistant (dunkable)
* Toughened ultra clear glass lens with AR coating
* Push-button tail cap switch
* Capable of standing up securely on a flat surface to serve as a candle
* Batteries not included

[color:"red"]Fenix P3D CE

• Utilizes a Cree 7090 XR-E LED with a life of 50,000 hours
• Two modes of output, selected by turning the bezel
[color:"yellow"]• General Mode: 9 lumens (65hrs) -> 40 lumens (13hrs) -> 90 lumens (4.8hrs) -> SOS
• Turbo Mode: 160 lumens (1.8hrs) -> Strobe
• Digitally Regulated for Constant Brightness
• Low Battery Indication
[color:"yellow"]• Uses two CR123A battery (not included)
• 11.4cm (L) x 2.1cm (D)
• Made of aircraft grade aluminum
• Durable Type III hard anodized finish
• 49.2-gram weight (excluding batteries)
• Water-resistant (dunkable)
• Toughened ultra clear glass lens with AR coating
• Push-button tailcap switch
• Capable of standing up securely on a flat surface to serve as a candle
• Battery not included

Both are excellent but the performance enhancement from using CR123A lithium over AA alkaline can be seen above in terms of lumen and burn time. Here in Australia you can buy CR123A for around AUS$2 or under if you know where to look, and it has a shelf life of 10 years with loss of 5% performance per year at room temperature. I would get the P3D CE if you could get CR123A cheaply, if not the L2D CE. Both are great!

I would get both, LOL! Since you can buy both of them for the price of one comparable models the likes Blackhawk Nightops or Surefire...

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,
Jack

Those specs are quite interesting! I may have to look into the P3D as my M6 replacement later on!

Hmm... More toys!
