... Does a large blade require that much more time to finish than a small blade? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I'm not a knifemaker, so I can't answer that question.
I'm not a knifemaker either, but I play one on the internet. The answer is YES. A big blade has a lot more surface area to grind. Maintaining a straight, even high saber grind is difficult and requires some skill and patience. It is done by hand. Doing a full flat grind on a 4" blade is much easier. I have seen some of your custom grind work at Blade, Jeff, so I know that you are aware of this.
Right you are Vic!! Having dabbled in knife making, I have a great deal of respect for makers of fine polished blades. It is one of, if not the most tedious task involved in the process. The DFLE is 2 1/2 times the lenght of the Keeper and no dought would take 2 1/2 times as long to finish. There's just now way to rush a good polish job.
