They are about the same just not identical. 01670 is an anhanced, chrome vanadium steel. What it has that 1095 lacks is nickel, chrome and some vanadium. 1095 is still a great steel especially for the outdoors due to ease of sharpening. Going with Ka-bar is a wise choice.
