Kind of funny, a few years back I use to work a hard job where I ate 6-8000 calories a day cuz I burned so much and I thiught I would never have to go to a gym,( plus teaching a kids MMA class) now I go 4-5 times a week for 1.5 - 2 hours each time.
But the push up thing has been a new thing for me- I do 3x per week 100 push ups per time 4 sets of 25 1st set is index and thumbs together in front of me (close together) set no. 2 is shoulder width 3rd set is on a set of dumbells (the six sided ones) so I get a deep press and 4th set changes, maybe on the knuckles, folded in wrists or elevated feet.
My bench is pretty good and in 2 years I put on 10" in my chest!! and increased my flat bench by 120# Now I am slimming down so my strength is down too.
Oh yea, the push ups help with reps but not really with strength unless you don't do any bench work.
Something to try: I use a product called NO Explode (I like the lime flavor) it is a pre workout drink that gives you a ton of extra energy without making your heart beat out of your chest. Good stuff.
Time at the gym is about the best time of my day, good friends I feel good about myself, and I stay out of trouble!
