Geeze... Mike makes valid points about how some knives are designed to withstand that kind of abuse, which doesn't neccessarily make them "better knives." I have Scrappers and Rangers because I want a knife that will take gross abuse - for no legitimate reason really, other than chopping and prying (well I guess those are legitimate uses to me). I have a ton of Ontario Rats, which are more in line with Bark River's intended uses - edge holding and reasonably tough... and I love them. I do plan on gettting a Barkie some day too - probably more than one.

Its unfortunate that some people think that the only important quality of a knife is that it be indestructible.

It is also unfortunate that some people are grossly offended by the fact that someone wants to destroy knives with their own time and money just because they enjoy it, and because others enjoy watching the destruction.

None of us would be here at Scrapyard if we didn't care about how tough our knives were - because that is WHY you get a Scrapyard knife. If you want edge retention and fancy handles, you wouldn't be here - or you would know of an apporpriate maker that will fulfill your other knife needs so you could also get a beautiful high quality long lasting utility knife (say... Bark River!).

I'm a pretty laid back guy though, I'm not all about confrontation and complaining - I'm kinda "live and let live." For the reasonably educated knife user, who understands what knifetests.com is all about, there is nothing wrong with sitting back and enjoying watching someone destroy a knife.

As a side note, the spear test was something that is very interesting and fun to watch - the Cold Steel bushman is a dirt cheap knife designed to be easily converted to a spear... how much fun was it watching Noss launch that thing through TV's? I found it very entertaining.

I wish everyone would just relax a little bit, and take things for what they're worth.

I hope this didn't sound like a rant, because it really isn't meant to be - I'm just kind of thinking "alloud" through my fingers - I'm not wound up about this whole thing at all.

Have a good day Gents - I'll be on later tonight!

-Dan
