I got interested in watches and found out that ost watch companies buy the movement and only make the surround so that often a 5000$ watch and a 700$ watch will have the exact same internals. If you are careful and try to find the Scrapyard of auto watches you can get an awesome watch for a pretty good deal.
The more I learned about Rolex's and other high end watches and what actually worked the best the easier it became to decide what to buy. I got a Casio G-Shock and never regretted it.

I am not one of those people who does not understand why people like "real" watches though. I really appreciate the skill and craftsmanship that goes into a good movement. I don't like blingy watches though.

I love a nice antique pocket watch or old ships chronometers. Back before GPS etc they needed accurate timepieces to figure out where they were on the ocean so a chronometer was vital.
