I met a gentleman from the UK once who told me the best way to size up a man when you first meet them is to check out the watch they wear and the pen they use. His belief was that it is a great indicator of the individual, in most cases I have found him to be somewhat correct, at least in a business setting.

What a great watch, good for you

Dan

I don't wear a watch. The pen I use usually comes from the last hotel I stayed in. I am pretty sure that says "I'm cheap!" but it allowed me to save enough to buy a DFLE.

THAT must be my problem. I keep thinking that the most valuable possessions of a man are those that are ‘earned’ rather than those that are ‘bought’. The craftsmanship in a Rolex (or a fine blade) or the ingenuity in the design/manufacture of a G-Shock (or the sharpness of wit, or the keenness of intellect, or the degree of compassion, etc.) are all indicators of the quality of man more appropriate than the is the accidental inheritance of birth (see 'aristocrat').

BTW, thanks to this thread, I just found out that my favorite weekend watch has become 'highly collectable' in the last 28 years! It is a Casio 'Marlin' W-150, just like the one described here... http://www.gmtplusnine.com/2007/04/29/a-startling-archeological-discovery/ . Apparently it is the direct evolutionary ancestor of the G-Shock! My parents gave it to me for my 11th birthday as I recall.
