i love leatherman. the surge and core are the largest and have the most features. the wave has just as many features but is slightly smaller. it is my favorite. i bought a pocket clip for mine and it rides in my pocket. the charge is the same as the wave but it has a better blade made from 154cm. it is a great tool as well. I have used every leatherman tool ever made and i would say the wave is the best.
if it isn't a leatherman the swiss tool is great also. i own alot of gerber tools but i'm not happy with the performance. I have had problems with the wire cutters and i like a fully serrated blade.
