okay, here comes the rant.
no one who buys that knife does so for the sake of practicality. in fact, most infi blades are not practical, economically speaking. if you need a chopper and need to watch the weight, the RTAK2 is lighter, cheaper, and holds it edge magnificently (better than my Carbon V LTC kukri and DFLE). another great choice that you don't have to worry too much about is a machete. tram, ontario, barteaux, condor, cold steel, take your pick.
buy the NMFBM, not because it's practical, but because you want it and can afford it.
I see your rant you raise you my rant.
If you can afford it and want it so be it. There's nothing wrong with that. However, I was addressing the practicality of taking that knife to Iraq. It's not a practical knife to take to Iraq in my opinion.
The simple reality is that he most likely will not need a chopper or a machette in the sandy, dry, desert climate, or urban landscape that he's likely to find himself in. A smaller blade 5-6 inch will be more practical, lighter, and will be used more than some massive chopper.
The battlefield is about what works and what doesn't. And I don't think that particular blade is the best choice.
It's one thing to want a knife simply to want one. Heck, I've got plenty of those lying around. However, it's quite another thing when you have to choose based on the situation.
