The test case has been Great Britain.
Everything that has been implemented in that country is what we are heading
towards. If you thought that the USSR was an oppressive regime, think again.
That was just for practice.
The New World was implemented in GB and is now being implemented on the North
American continent. The next time you are at an intersection look to see if
there are camera's set up so that "traffic flow" can be "monitored".

Anyway, if you look at:

1.) powers given to or taken by (given via acquiescence) the governments of the world in the name of security,
2.) increasing dependence on interconnected digital systems at all levels of society,
3.) increasing features in decreasing size leading to more interconnectedness and less user understanding

... then it's easy to predict where we're going. At least in the near future.

Homework: Find out about the concept of the panoptic sort (pan-, "all" + optic, "seeing". Sort, verb, to select or organize data based on defined criteria). Identify ways in which modern society has already begun to implement it or ways in which it could conceivably be advanced without public awareness.

This concludes today's lesson on paranoia. Be vigilant!
