You make sense to me, KG. I think you are right about it being a military knife. It is a Bowie knife, as is the Ka-Bar style combat knife. Like that combat knife, it is and was used more for utility purposes than in hand to hand combat, but it was used for that, too. It sure feels good in the hand.
