I'd say it also depends on how you process your deer. I don't hunt much (don't like to get up that early), but have been around for a cleaning or three in my day. Some folks like to use their knife to split the pelvis, for example, and for those folks a beefier blade is the ticket.

Others carry a hatchet or saw for that task, and use a much smaller folder for their skinning.


So really it's down to personal preference or style, and none of us knows your brother-in-law's preferences.
