I agree. I mean they tore the horse up, so the taste of flesh is not limited to humans only.

This reminds me of the scene in "Shaun of the Dead" when they pretend to be zombies to make it through the crowd of real zombies. Maybe they only like the smell of living flesh.
They have an answer for this in World War Z, I can't remember the answer but I will look it up
