For me it was the early 70's. One of my first 6th grade shop projects was a bunch of metal throwing stars. We caught heck when they started showing up stuck in the ceiling of the breezways. From there moved on to the nun chucks. Whenever it was jacket weather, I would carry a set with one stick running down the left sleeve inside, ready to pull out. The only thing I ever hit with them was myself, but thought I was ready and bad @$$. From High School days I still have a couple of sets that a friend in cabinet shop made for me. A set of hexagonal Bubinga wood. And some round ones that are teak, grooved and lead filled on the ends.
