As I'm typing a 20pager on surveillance for class, I was going to suggest a night vision camera. Often the cheap ones have the infrared visible- it shows as red dots. I'm not familiar with hte costco model.

If the theives can see the cam, they can bust it, spray it, or wear covering clothing, such as a hooded sweatshirt.

Hidden cams ftw! Often having a conspicuous large cam with a couple hidden cams can be very effective.

I'm sorry for your loss. I feel fortunate enough not to have ever had my car or home broken into. I guess it helps that my car looks like poor persons' car (a beater) and I look like the wrong person to @#$% with.
