In my humble opinion SR77 is better for larger chopping type knives or axes. Very tough stuff and will dent or roll rather than chipping...the downside being that the edge holding ability ain't as good as SR101, 1095, A2, O1 etc.
SR101 (52100)is an awesome all round steel. Amazing edge holding,gets razor sharp and yet is still tough enough to take serious beatings.
