Yeah I thought about using velcro and a strap of tape, but I don’t think it really needs it. It’s so tight I can turn it upsidedown and it stays. The older one with my BR in it is a little looser, it’s loosened with time. But it will still hold it in place if you turn it upsidedown. A slight shake and it starts to slide out. I don’t think I’d have any problems with it staying put unless I were hanging upsidedown. And if I were, I’d probably be having bigger problems than worrying about my knife. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />


Originally I made my first sheath because I couldn’t afford a leather or kydex one and had to have some way to carry it without getting cut. I got the idea from the cardboard/tape that it came wrapped in. First I was just going to make a thicker version that I wouldn’t have to worry about cutting me through. Then I thought I may as well add a belt loop. I looked at the sheath on my Ka-Bar to see how it was made, and tried to copy the design in cardboard. I’d like to switch to leather once I get some leather and learn to sew. Then I could copy the same design, only leather instead. I only wear it when I’m in my yard, or if I walk down the road a few miles for a walk. Unfortunately, I don’t wear it in the woods. We no longer have access to our neighbor’s woods. I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere. But, I don’t really have a problem with it cutting into the cardboard. The BR sheath has been used for 6-9 months with no problems. I lay the knife on the cardboard and trace the knife for the outline, so it’s a perfect fit. The only way it can cut into it is if you pull it to the side (pushing the blade into the sheath) instead of pulling straight up. Since the fit is so tight, I don’t even really think water is a problem unless you fall in a lake with it on or something.

When I first thought of making them, I thought the type of people that might be interested in one would be someone like me who wants a simple cheap sheath for using around the yard brush clearing, or someone who wants an “upgraded” cardboard/tape sheath for a safe queen etc.

But these are quite tough. Everyone who saw one in person was suprised at its strength. Maybe I should set up a pass-around for anyone that wants to check one out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
