Ordered 1500 rounds from freedom munitions. Can't wait to try them.

So help me out! Need a new upper and debating the barrel options. Looking to shoot coyotes 100-300 yards out (maybe longer). My options (all 1:8 twist):

-- 16" stainless heavy
-- 18" stainless heavy straight flutes
-- 18" stainless heavy spiral fluted
-- 18" stainless heavy melonite straight fluted
-- 20" stainless heavy straight fluted
-- 20" stainless heavy spiral fluted
-- 20" stainless bull barrel with target crown

-- 16" melonite HBAR 1:7 (by far the cheapest optiom, but can't get a thin quad or keymod for that)

Gonna need to haul it a field. Not sure how heavy that 20" bull would be with an ultralight thin freefloat handguard, but I would think keeping the pkg under 8 lbs would-be ideal.

Is 16" just too short for this? Is a bull too heavy and unbalanced? Would a 20" spiral fluted be light enough and still provide good rigidity? Is 20" too "unmaneuverable?"

Thoughts?

I have many thoughts, but none of them will help in this situation.

DT you can get a thin keymod on an H-Bar Barrel. I did that on this one and its one of the thinnest forearms on the market.

Here is the forearm compared to a standard quad rail and a MOE

Replacing the handguard would negate the cost savings of the upper : grin:

I would say go for one of the 20 inch stainless at least that would be my choice. Who are you looking at getting it from?

I have a buddy with an HBAR 18" that he runs suppressed. we were pinging steel gophers at 300 yards with cheap ammo. I'd suggest that. Even with a 16" heavy fluted barrel, I'd expect you could still get hits on target on 'Yotes.

NOt sure if it'll help you make your decision, but My thinking is this: If I can't think of a good reason why I need a barrel that long, then I don't really need it. Perhaps that will serve you as a useful yardstick as well?

I have a friend down in Canyon City who builds ARs. I've shot this one a couple times during testing, and I sorta fell for it... laugh Looks like I'm finally getting into the AR market.

DT I used my 16in BCM SAMR barrel and shot a sub MOA group last weekend with a red dot. The 16 will work the 20 just add velocity.
