The problem is, it's not always black and white. What makes a knife "cheap" to one person may make it "inexpensive" to another. Beauty (and value) is in the eye of the beholder. Perfect example? The Browning Crowell/Barker Competition knife. Unsub says "cheap". Scott Gossman says "inexpensive". Who's right and who's wrong? who's right and who's wrong depends on how the knife performs. cheap is an indictment of quality, inexpensive describes price. i agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder... how do you think i scored a wife

Personally, I don’t understand why anyone would want lesser knives if they already own the best? It seems like a waste to me. When I started buying these knives, I sold off all my Ontarios and Cold Steel fixed blades so that I could buy more high quality knives. If/when those lesser knives break, they’ll be no great warranty like here, and you’re out your money. I admit that SYKCO, Busse, and SRK are tougher than most knives, and have a better warranty. But I'm keeping my "lesser" knives. Some have served me in tough times. Some I just like to look at. I like my CS kukris and Ontarios. That does not prevent me from liking Scrap Yard knives more. Sometimes it is fun to compare. I would love a 1/4" thick flat ground Scrap Yard version of the Ontario Survival Bowie. It is lighter and quicker than the DF, but big enough for most chopping tasks. Since no SYK version exists, I'll just keep on using it. If it breaks, I still got 13 years hard use out of it. For heavier chopping, I'll just grab the Dog Father.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

That is a very nice offer on your part Scrappy! There have been some very valid points made all around. Personally, I don't think it's any worse than having sheath-makers mention their business. Just as they are helping their fellow Dogs with sheaths, you would be helping them save on knives WHICH DO NOT THREATEN DAN'S BUSINESS! If I come across a factory knife I want, I will get it! This does NOT affect my decision on buying a knife from the Scrap Yard!!! I also understand the desire to not turn this forum into another BladeForum "buy - sell- trade". It will be interesting to see what Dan decides. Either way, I think it is a very nice offer from Scrappy. Tom

I do not want anyone to think I am pouncing on an opportunity to make money. for Example the barker bowie I would sell would be 95 plus shipping. that is very very little mark up.

Scrappy, good of you to offer and good luck with whatever is decided. I'm also in league with Horn Dog. Got lots of other "good" knives even though I think Busse are best. I will still use and buy others. Having someone offer to get them cheaper is a bonus for me.

After reading about HD's waste of money on the Crowell barker bowie I thought I would pose a question. Dan and trash can, please feel free to censor me if needed. the dogs are always buying large expensive choppers like the rtak the browning or this new spyderco. I sell knives at the swap meet. I have never sold a Knife on line. I have a pay pal account so I am sure I could set it up. my point is I honestly hate to see the dogs loose so much money. I know I could get the dogs this new browning for less than 140 and even less than 110. I do not want to sell knives on dan's web site even if it is all by PM, because it is still his forum. if Dan is fine with a the dogs sending me a PM for these manufactured knives than that would be fine. but if i was dan I would't let me do it either. mabey I will just add my email to my signature or something. I should say I really do not sell for a profit. I do it for fun. that is the first reason, than very little profit like around 10 to 20% wich is nothing. If there is interest let me know. I have been selling knives for a bout 3 years but I have not mentioned it on the forum because i figure it is inappropriate but you guys are paying to much. Let’s make this real simple...no selling products on this forum. To be honest I do not appreciate the approach that goes something like this..." I just got a great knife and I only paid $20 dollars for it at xyz site". This is an insult to the Yards intelligence. If you want to show the rest of the Dogs your recent scores and purchases, that's cool because that is above board. Including price and location to buy is cheesy and un-acceptable. There are plenty of sites for selling knives and stuff. I do not support PM'ing people to solicit business of any kind. We have a very unique forum with the Dogs being a close-knit family. Just so that you know, I get several request per week from people who want to sell or communicate Amway, Pharmaceuticals, Oil Treatment, Hair Growth as well as deliever Religious messages because the Dog would benefit from it...not going to happen. Therefore, I would ask you and the rest of the Dogs to respect what we have built here and work any business over at the other sites. Thanks for understanding Dan

I still buy customs and I want a CS trail master and Fehrman knives...even though they don't answer emails....are they "lesser" ...In my opinion, NO. They are different. I like styles from other makers and just because the Busse Trinity doesn't make it, doesn't mean I won't buy it. Not every knife I own I expect to trust my life to. I keep those around where and when I need them. The others are fun to own, and sometimes it is what you can afford at the time, and availability.....we all know how this works around here...be at the right place at the right time or expect to pay a 75% mark up. When most of these others are readily available. I see no reason to only buy from 1 company. Keeps competition up and prices ...within reason.
I think great "values" are to be had and not every knife you own needs to be the BEST IN THE WORLD.
Just my 2 cents.
EMail if you have a spare 460!!!!
