I've got a fenix p3d and a surefire U2 and their outputs are about the same, really.
The surefire has a better throw and wider corona.
The contest of ~60 dollar fenix versus 280 dollar surefire is a pretty clear victory for surefire.
The fenix is more carryable, except for its lack of a pocket clip.
I like the U2 more than the P3d, in general. How much of a better throw do you find and how do the run times compare? I guess I am wondering if there is enough of an improvement to justify the price difference.

I got one of the Fenix knives that I rather like as well. I had bought some of the older L2P and L1P's when the new ones came out at a good price and sold them to some pals. I keep my L1P in my EDC kit 24/7. I consider Fenix to be the Scrapyard of flashlights and a big improvemnt over maglights.

Runtime P3d vs Us Hmmm, I haven't run either one down on a set of batteries yet, and I've owned and used both for 3 months plus so I couldn't tell you about one lasting longer.
The throw of the U2 is far and away better than the P3d. The big, "orange peeled" reflector sees to that. It is a compromise though, the U2 is a bit big for most pockets. I was super excited to get my hands on a Cree LED but I'll admit I'm underwhelmed. I was expecting 50% more light output than the U2, but that's not anywhere near the case. The P3D is a good light, but of the two I use the surefire far more. In fact my e2d with KL1 head sees more use than the P3d.

I spend to much on knives and motorcycles to have a first rate light but I got such a good deal on the older 1 watt Fenix (20$ for the L1P and 25 for the L2P) that I really don't feel like I am missing out. I even got a spare L1P body for the L2P so I can swap lens's and tailcaps for a smaller light.
I was also really impressed with the Fenix folder. It is a little gents folder made of decent stainless and G10 with a single edge and spear point. I will take some pics if my mom ever gives it back. It was 5$ with the lights.
I really don't feel I am missing much with the newer versions of the lights although the Cree's are nice the strobe feature I am happy without.
If you can get one of the knives with your order do it?
The pouches could be better but I have Eric on it right now.
I carry my L1P ,SS4 and my Gerber sportcompact multitool(the black T3 one so it matches and it was on sale)for my EDC. They are attached to my backpack ,I just finished switching them over to the new Alpinestars Vader pack tonight. If there is something they(or the lockpicks sewn in the lining) can't handle I am in big trouble.

hey Blondie, can you posr pics of your E2D with the KL1 head I was thinking about getting that upgrade to add a little more battery life to my E2D which I love dearly.

Thanks for the clarification! I carry mine in a pocket and use them a lot. Go through a couple of sets of batteries a month in the winter. I think the p3d rebel100 will suit me well. Plus the price was nice.

I just got one of the new 'military' angleheads from county.com. It is a little anglehead, with an LED. It was around 35 smackers. Supposidly, it is new current issue. I like it enough that I am planning on getting another one in black (mine is tan, of course). It also came with a nifty molle pouch. it is made by pentagonlights, www.pentagonlight.com.40 lumens, 180 hr run time i=on a aa battery.

Of course, as soon as we start talking about LED lights I check my emergency light in the car (Maglite with Nite-Eyz) and its dead as a doornail. I know I just changed the batteries so I check them on a voltmeter and they are good. Now I'm pissed. Must be a corroded contact or something.
I work across the street from a Fry's so I stop in there on the way home and buy an Inova Bolt for $35 and it rocks. It is ALMOST as bright as my Surefire 6P.

When I kept a maglite in the mustang, it seemed to always be dead when I needed it. My surefire (which replaced the maglite 2D) just goes and goes.
