Dogs,

I need your help. my wife says no to a purchase right now. she is right christmans is nice but taxing and our health care raises another 140 a month starting january. so I need to decide to let it slide or to talk with her some more. If it was more money it would be a no for sure but it is a bargain. I beleive scrap yard sr77 and the dog father are arguably the strongest knife on the market and well woth the cost. other than appearance will it out preform the CG version? flat gring, it should slice better but still poorly (1/4 inch thick). but the CG version is thicker and saber ground. I think it would be slightly heavier and stronger, better for chopping. what do you think?

thank you Dogs for the input.

The regret of not getting one will last MUCH longer than the argument with your wife! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Just explain to her than it is an INVESTMENT, and will only appreciate in value. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I think it will be better at slicing AND chopping! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Scrappy, the DF is a great pure chopper, but it is a bit blade heavy and "slow" for lighter stuff, like machete work. I honestly think the new DFLE will be a better all around knife. The price is very good, too. I don't think you would ever regret getting one if you can. In my opinion, it will be as close to perfect as a chopper can be.

Look and see what you've got that you can live without, and put some stuff up on Flea-bay. That'll help justify it.

I'm doing the same thing right now myself, this time of year can be tough on finances... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

I am in the same boat to a certain extent Scrappy. I am going to have one more talk with her and then see where it goes. I will have cash after Christmas but now it's tight. We will see, good luck to you bro.

If you want talking out of it here it goes....

A satin blade requires more care than a CG version to prevent it from rusting.

A knife that size is very rarely used for slicing stuff, it's just used for smashing through so there is very little advantage over the Sabre ground version.

For about $20 more you can buy a SRKW Chopweiler whick in my humble opinion is the best large H/Duty knife ever made( more will be in the store soon. )

Pitman, if you don't mind me asking why do you think the SRKW chopweiler is the best large h/duty knife made?.

I've been meaning to ask on a forum why do some people prefer a 6-8" blade. What benefits do they have. Shurly a small skinner coupled with a large 10" chopper is best.
It seems to me that a middle ground 7" knive carn't do the job as well as a small knife or a large knife.
Do people like them only because i saves space carring only one knife.

Can someone help enlighten me as to what i'm missing in regards to the mid range blade size knives.

kindest regards.

You can make a knife that thick slice well especially if it has a high flat grind.
All it needs is a Horn Dog style edge like Brian Vic and I put on our YKLE's.
The DFLE should be able to get even sharper than the YKLE because of the wider blade and therefore higher grind. I can't wait to get my hands on the DFLE. With a nice thin edge it should be like a comp bowie.

I like to think of buying scrappers as moving money from my bank account to another that I can play with. I needed to cash in my original DFCG when I found a FS Dagger I needed. I actually made a 100$ on it and now I get a satin version which I am starting to like better.
