don't worry, mag. look what you have forward to next year...

on a more serious note, you'll rise to the occasion. one usually needs to feel the heat before bearing down.

For swizzle, mag22, and anyone else who was around back on page 362, CountyComm fixed my botched order. I sent them one email and the missing items showed up a mere 5 days later. Any concern I had about them based on my first order has been vanquished.

good to know

thank you for the update, and glad to know you didn't get stiffed!

Dang Andy, you must have started as a wee squab. The only place we went was a local boat launch/beach. I didn't really have high hopes for it, it was just a place for a first outing.
I think my best hope in this part of the country is gold prospecting or coin shooting in some of the places likely to turn up OLD coins. Even the busiest of beaches here would have light traffic compared to the real sand meccas.

There's a dude at work I might team up with that knows some likely spots. That's undoubtedly more than half the battle.

Some good spots are beaches, parks, playgrounds, campgrounds, anywhere a fair or circus has set up. People can lose rings around horseshoe throw areas, sledding areas (pulling off gloves), swimming areas, etc. Another good spot is anywhere an old lot is cleared. A sidewalk removed, a house torn down, anywhere people could have lost things in the past that have been inaccessible until whatever obstacle is removed. You can do research at the library where different old houses and buildings were in the area. Ask old people where people used to congregate in the area long ago that would be accessible.

In my family, we’ve always used one of those cheap cloth nail aprons with pockets when detecting; one pocket for trash, and one for treasure. You can wear headphones to detect faint signals, but I don’t like wearing them, because I feel like an easy target. Some lowlife could sneak up on you to rob you of your “treasure”. Use can use a good strong knife or small trowel to dig a small plug where you get a signal. If the ground isn’t too tough, you can use one of those plastic Fiskars trowels. The good thing about them is you can pass a shovel full of dirt under the coil checking for a signal, and the shovel won’t set it off like a metal one. If you want, you can also use a small drop cloth to keep the dirt in one area from your target spot to spread it around without losing anything, and it makes the cleanup easier refilling the hole with no mess. When searching signals in the sand, you can use a heavy cat litter scooper to sift through the sand. We have a nice strong metal one we got at PetSmart for like $12 or something.

I’ve been Gold Prospecting for 16 years or so too. We have a sluice box and several pans and classifiers. Haven’t found anything but dust and very small flakes. Anyone interested in either hobby should check out:

So guys - I know I haven't been around much lately (I'm in my last month of college - really kicking it in the butt trying to finish up) - but I just got word about five minutes ago that I have been ACCEPTED to the Gonzaga University's Law School in Spokane, WA!

I haven't heard back from Montana yet, and will have to make a tough choice between the two, but the good news is that I'll be going to law school in the fall!

I'll try and drop in tonight when I take a study break.

When you become a lawyer you will be able to afford some serious steel!

Thanks guys!

Its really hard to stay motivated at this point, since I know that all I have to do is "pass" my classes and graduate! Trying to finish strong, though. I have 40 pages to write this month - 15 of those being due in a week. Gotta get cracking!

Dan and Mike - thanks guys!

If I end up in Spokane, I'll be a real short drive from Longview and the Pancake Restaurant!

It'd pretty much guarantee my appearance at Blade West as well!
