i had more trouble with triple a batteries leaking and causing damage to calculators when i taught. i got to the point where i didn't accept or ask for batteries from students because they only brought in the cheap radio shack crap that leaked all over the place. it was really a problem.

so, w/d, what are these aaa eneloops?

Nice, Stew.

Maybe some kind of Boletus or Suillus, I'd say, off the top of my head.

omg Stew, your gonna luv them! they are a LSD battery, Low Self Discharge.
made by Sanyo (and being copied, cloned and licensed!)

they are currently AA and AAA but you can get D and C adoptors.
Their claim is they can be recharged 1000x! but they've only been out a year or so so nobody really knows for sure (geeks are testing them)

they never leak, and unlike the older NICADs these NIMHs hold their charge when stored, long! Great for things you use once in awhile.

alkaline's are stronger the first 5 mins but after that LSDs out preform; alkies dim and lose power fast, LSDs(eneloops) hold strong, for long, so good for flashlights.

Hmm,interest about the reduced prices, I didn't know that. So how long will a flashlight with an 11 hour run time last during normal use (e.g. not using it for hours at a time)

And how does that compare to say, a small maglight?

Have you hugged your camp knife today?

cloak, a light with 11 hours of useful light, under normal use, will last for MONTHS. if you're just lighting it up for, say, 10 minutes a day, that's over 2 months of use before changing batteries.

as far as the mini-maglites... don't know. i had a bunch of the incandescent ones through the years, which pale in comparison to my led lights, but have never used an led mini-mag. i'm sure they're great lights, it just depends on how much light you want.

longer with LSDs and better because after a short time alkies get dim, LSDs hold brighter longer (not as bright as fresh but better than alkies)

LSDs are what Alkalines were claimed to be, and what NICADs were suppose to be.
people hated having to recharge them when they bought them. People hated having to recharge them (NICADs) after sitting for a few days, NIMHs do all that and you can reuse them around 1000x.

I course you have to buy a charger, and they are not cheap yet but their prices are coming down too, fast.

you guys can wait, the prices will be good in about a year (comparable) but your gonna have to keep buying batteries (alkies) until then!

Most predict alkies will be obsolete in less then 2 years.

duracell and energizer are/will change over to them. they have too!
which will bring the price down even more!

i use nimh rechargeables right now, but i'm sure they're not eneloops because they're energizers. they're great batteries and hold a charge, literally, for months at a time.

i'm looking forward to checking out an even better version.
