I bought an extra one in case a fellow Dog did not have the cash to spend on one now and might later when the DFLEs are no longer available. I will sell it to him for exactly what I paid for it (KNIFE, SHIPPING COST AND UNFORTUNATELY TAX SINCE I LIVE IN TX), plus the actual shipping cost to him or her. The tax and extra shipping make it a little more to get it this way but it's better than what many of the secondary market prices will be then. 179.95 + 14.95 shipping = $194.90 store cost. And + $14.95 tax for me = $210.00 my cost. Then add 8-10 dollars shipping to the Dog being "helped out" and it's right at $220.00! All the added costs of doing business immediately drive up the price of any knife that is hard to get. $179.95 sounds great but don’t forget it costs $40.00 more to do some one a favor AT COST (in TX anyway – that darn tax!).
If you decide to get one later when times are better on your budget, send me a PM and if I still have an extra, I would be more than happy to help out! I can vouch for this. When I first found out about the dog father I was foaming at the mouth for one. Unfortunately I was late to the party for the first 2 releases. When the dumpster mutt came available, I purchased 2 in the hopes that I could use one for trade to get a DF. KS came to my rescue, at cost, and threw in a sweet lanyard, even when I'm quite sure he probably had at least one dumpster mutt for himself already. One of the coolest and most generous guys you will find anywhere. So if you want the knife you can take him at his word, it's golden.

If the DFLE is so tough and indestructible, why is it that people feel the need to purchase more than one (some as many as 4).
Or are they purchasing several purely for resale on the secondary market down the road at a marked-up price?
If this is the case, I think that sales should be restricted to one knife per person. A company like Randall has had to do this as well, for the same reason...
IMO it's not fair or right that people buy up all available stocks and then re-sell them later at a profit. I don't think its any secret that this practice happens a lot with Busse/SR/SY products.
Just look at how many turn up on the BF Exchange 'brand new and unused'.
I realise this post will not make me popular but I feel it needs to be said. This is not sour grapes, the knife is still available in the store (miracle!) but I don't have the cash right now.
I can bet they'll be all gone by tomorrow though.... and before long they'll be turning up on the Exchange for around $250, maybe more. A tidy little profit for very little work.
Sorry, I think its wrong. I kinda agree with ya bro, I missed out on the Swamprat HRLM's and Ratmandu's due to lack of funds and I'm not prepared what they are asking for a private sale now as I only want one as a user ! The situation will never change though so more power to those that can afford it, the rest of us will just have to suck it up !!!!

I'm not being specific about the DFLE, I'm talking generally.... but I guess Pitman is right. I'll just have to suck it up and hang in for the next release.
FWIW I sure hope its a DMLE!

I also have mixed feelings on this, not being born rich instead of so good-looking! However, with the advance notice that Dan provides, it gives us a chance to beg, borrow, hopefully NOT steal, the necessary funds to get these prizes. This is also why I advise anyone who is considering a purchase to do so - if you snooze, you lose! Tom

"People are buying them purely to re-sell at a profit, making an already scarce item even scarcer and more expensive.
If you can't see something wrong with that, I'm not sure I can really explain much further.
Mark" I can't see something wrong with that. I have no idea what you are trying to get at, in regard to where the "wrongness" comes in. If you can see something wrong with this, you should be able to explain what it is you see that is wrong about it... so I am not sure why you won't articulate your argument, and say you can't. I guess you must have a far more expansive sense of what constitutes "wrong" or "unfair" than I do. I'll tell you what... I'll articulate for you my sense of how right and wrong applies in this situation, and you can then tell me how reselling knives for profit is wrong by responding to my argument. To me, the root of wrong behavior is aggression upon a non-aggressor. This generally involves the unwarranted use, or threat of use, of physical force, against a person (or set of people) or a person's property. When I look at the situation regarding resale of Busse family knives, such unwarranted usage of force against a non-aggressor appears conspicuously absent. What I see is a chain of completely voluntary interactions. The Busses voluntarily sell their wares, which are their property to do as they please with. The customer voluntarily buys these wares with their own money, which is theirs to do as they please with. The customer, in turn, voluntarily resells the knives, which are their property to do as they please with, at a profit. The buyer voluntarily buys these knives. Voluntary at every step of the way. If anyone at any point in these dealings felt that the deal was not satisfactory, they could opt not to participate in the deal. Ergo, no wrongdoing has occurred. "The DM, for example, is listed as $70 in the shop. I have yet to see one sell for under $100 on the Exchange. The cheapest one I have seen went for $110.
...If I could get a DM for $70 plus shipping, I'd have one now, but I don't like the thought that I'm having to cough up extra just because I wasn't in the right place at the right time, financially and physically." So, because you can't get what you want, when you want, at the price you want, that makes other peoples' behavior wrong, and makes the situation unfair? I just don't see it. All I see is unexplained complaints on your part, apparently because you don't like the way that the free market functions to distribute scarce goods. (I hope I am not mischaracterizing your argument, but I have asked for your argument and this is all you've given. Please feel welcome to correct me about the source of your contention.) Who are you to step in the middle of mutually consensual transactions between other people, and say, "Hey, that's not right; you guys are committing wrongs; I want you to change your dealings, for my sake"?

I've given the issue much thought in the past, and at first it bothered me, but I found out that as long as I kept me ear to the ground and had the funds, that I could score without too much trouble. And if I don't have the funds then it's probably not gunna matter. By the time I have more funds I know there will be something else coming soon enough. Then I just have to try and keep the funds from slipping away while I wait.

Well, no reason for any of us to get bent out of shape. I can understand the frustration of some, and the reasoning of others. We don't all have to agree on everything, but SHOULD be respectful of each other.

BH - the Mutt was $70, plus $15 for shipping makes $85. Like kirk said, if you're in Texas, that puts it in the $90's. I think a Mutt for $100-110 is a pretty reasonable price. $150-160 is ridiculous - but if someone will pay it, I guess people will ask that much.
When I got my CGFBM on the secondary market, I paid for the knife, the shipping to Canada, and then the shipping back to me in the USA - the guy I bought it from got maybe $15 more than he put in to it after shipping costs, but you can't expect to get something "for nothing," usually. I paid about $60 more than the knife would have cost had I been a month earlier and gotten on from Busse, directly. As is life, I guess.
I, like RW/Jeff, was annoyed about seeing the flipping when I first got here, but have come to accept the fact that it happens.
BUT, as long as you're "on time" for the feeding, you shouldn't ever have to deal w/ the secondary markets!

I bought 4, and I can't say precisely why. I am certainly annoyed when somebody sells something for a big markup the day after they sell out (that's profiteering), but if they do the same thing after a few months, then it's OK because their investment has matured. It's an emotional argument rather than a logical one, and doesn't even make sense to me, but that's how I feel.
I also have a tendency to acquire stuff compulsively; I'm sure that it's evidence of a spiritual shortcoming. However, I'm single and carry a zero-balance on my charge cards from month-to-month, so my spending is as under-control as I need it to be. As far as I know, because of the unconditional guarantee that all the Busse family companies maintain on their knives, nobody "needs" more than one user. I bought more than one simply because I want more and, at this point in my life, I can afford it.

Theres a teer in my bear cause I'm crying for scraps dear...
I have flipped for profit, for loss, for need, and I have kept for passion. If you want to cry about life not being fair, make a youtube message to Hillary Clinton or Oprah. There is truth to the troth.

I would like to add that there are some forum members on here that will actually offer you some models that they have duplicates of at cost which I find extremely kind and highly unusual amongst the knife world....once again that shows what a great bunch gather on the Yard !!!
