My loving bride has always been a NO GUN in the home kind of gal.

Since moving to the middle of absolutely nowhere I played my hand.

After explaining the graphic dreams of a home intruder she is flexing some from her iron clad stance. Only our 16 year old is still at home. And she is smart enough to learn now.I have been weighing the costs of ammo and longevity of the weapon and decided that we will find a 22 caliber pistol.

This is where you all come in. Before we had childern I had a few handguns. A Dan Wesson .22 with a 8 inch ventalated barrel. A S&W Model 41 a Colt Python 6 inch and a H&K Full auto machine gun."long story on the auto."

I don't want to spend $800.00 bucks for a 22 caliber pistol. I haven't looked at guns in 26 years. I have NO idea who sells what and how much they are.

I need names and model numbers of YOUR choice of a stake your life on it 22 caliber pistol. I love the Ruger Mark 2,reminds me of a Luger circa 1941.

Let me have it Dogs. Your P.o.P. has his ears perked up and is paying attention to you.

Peace.

The Browing Buckmark is a winner in my book, my dad has one and it has been a fun gun, the price (iirc) is good too.

My father-in-law got a Bretta Neos I think it is ULGY, and was a tad bit small for my big hands, but a good shooter, and would be easy to put a scope/red-dot on if you wanted.

I myself want/need a .22 pistol as well and will check this post to see what Our fellow dods recomend. I love the look and feel of SIG misquito, they had some problems first year or two but fixed everything from what I have heard, and it is a SIG. Another one that looks cool is the Walter P-22 lots of mixed reports on this one, it may be QC flaws or ammo pickky, but many love them, I find it a little "snug" in my hand which is almost comfortable on that pistol, but have never shot one. You mentioned the Rugers, there are a lot of models to chose from, so I can't say which one, but, the 22/45 has a 1911 style grip and many like that for cheap practice and/or a springboard to a real 1911. Another one that I just about never gets a bad rap is the CZ Kadet (yes with a "K"). Happy hunting P.O.P., and of course let us know what you get.

If you want a 22 don't forget to look at the S&W 617. It is a fun shooter with very little recoil. Accuracy is out of this world and would deliver the shots required to make a 22 stop an attack......Plus it's cheap and fun to shoot. Of course if I had the option of being able to aquire the HK, well, for me THAT would the the one OK so I can have full auto in Oregon but it just is not affordable right now

Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds you down or polishes you, depends on what you're made of

Yep +1.
Though I'm partial to the MK II version, but good luck finding one of those these days. Just never have liked the loaded chamber indicator on the newer MK IIIs. Otherwise it's a perfect .22 handgun.

A .22 sure wouldn’t be my first choice for defense. How about a Ruger Charger .22 Semi-Auto pistol? Basically it’s a handgun version of a Ruger .22. It uses the same mags as a 10/22, which means you can also use high-cap mags with it. It looks like a very fun toy.

Andy that looks like a Star Trek Phazer I have!

Scary lookin, but I really want reliable as I will be selling my non shooting bride on it. She will have to feel comfortable shooting it as well as our at home Daughter.

I know it's not a 1 shot kill kind of gun,but in time with a increased comfort level and training I believe we can build back up again to the kind I can't afford the ammo for!

Peace.

I think it would be plenty reliable. The 10/22 is the most customized, accurate, reliable .22 EVER.

I mean, I'm not a gun expert, but I know kimber makes good reliable guns and they make a .22 version of the 1911, (so it looks super sweet)
I think its more of a target pistol though.
idk you might want to look into it, but they are a little pricey.

Also, kimber makes a .22lr conversion kit (for about 300$) for about any .45 1911's.
so if you get 1911 and then get the .22lr conversion kit, you can make it .22 for practice and getting you and your family comfortable and than maybe switch it back to .45 after a while of shooting and getting used to for some serious home defense!
it might be worth the money in the long run, instead of getting the .22 and than upgrading later.
idk though.
just a though.

The Rugger Mark III has a magazine disconnect. That’s nominally a safety feature, and its okay in a strictly target pistol. I don’t like them in a self defense weapon. They essentially leave you unarmed while you are changing magazines. In a real self defense situation that might not make a difference very often. Then again, it might. I don’t like anything that increases my risks at a time like that.
