they were about $90 originally

I think they were even less than that bro, around $86 I think.....I can remember thinking that it was too much to justify spending on a knife !!!

How our thinking changes eh !!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

Excellent review!
Thank you for that.

I do agree with pitman completely.
I like the larger choil on the HR also.
And, at the risk of disagreeing with what someone else already said, I do like the sexy flat grind of the YK.
Yes, I said sexy.
Flat grinds are sweet.

Sometimes a knife just feels RIGHT in your hand with the right combination of grip, weight, balance. At the top of the my list for amazing feel... AD, SS4, HRLM, S6, Camp Tramp, Ratweiler, DFLE

A larger choil is just a Dremel Tool with a sanding drum away. Look at the choil on my HRLM (the shiny one) in picture of my Howlers above.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Since this short little comparison has stirred up a bit of controversy about SR101 (thanks Bruce), I am bumping it to the top so folks can see exactly what I did and draw their own conclusions. The manufacturers themselves perform much more scientific tests on their steels than I could ever do. How many of you cut a hemp rope thousands of times to see how long it takes to dull an edge? I never said SR77 had equal edge retention to SR101. I did say that most users probably wouldn't notice the difference. That is opinion, not fact. The SR101 blade that I use the most is my Ratweiler. It's edge holding is amazing, and yes, a little better than the SR77 Dog Father. So what? They are both great steels and great knives.
