IMO, there are two darn near perfect knives that have been made by Scrap Yard - and I am VERY picky. YES, before I get thrashed, there are a lot of GREAT knives from Scrap Yard. I just feel these are IMO the two best and the hardest to find any faults with (IMO). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

* Ironically, they make a great combo! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

1) The DFLE - Perfect marriage of SUPER tough steel in a blade that is designed to take super abuse. 10" blade full height grind, satin finished, powerful yet nimble and balanced in the hande and with the great Res-C handle that is comfortable and aids in balance and feel of the over-all knife! This knife is VERY hard to improve upon! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

2) The SS4 - LUCKY for us Dogs to get the INCREDIBLE INFI steel with one of the best blade designs in a smaller knife that I have seen from Busse. Perfect shape and size for a 4" knife IMO and with a perfectly placed and sized choil with my favorite Mudder grips for smaller knives. The SS4 and the Bog Dog are the only two Mudder grip knives and the best balance with size and placement of usable finger choils. IMO, most other smaller Scraps and Rats could use some tweaks in the guard and choil areas. But, the SS4 is about perfect. The only reason for me that the SS4 ranks below the DFLE is black coating. I removed my coating, but it is too hard to get the deep pits around the ricasso. However, I think it still looks very nice with a little (eh hem.... LOT) of work:

Now we just need to Scrap- Weiler. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Darn it, KnifeGuy, you're wrong again! There are THREE darn near perfect knives from the yard. You forgot the Scrapper 6! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> BTW: Nice looking edge.

Those two do make a good combo! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I hope we see something else with the mudder grips in the future. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

Vic,

I figured somebody would have an issue with my statement. I shouldn't be surprised to see you defend the S6.

The S6 is very good and I have given it props over the M6 on many occassions. I do feel the S6 is a GREAT mid-sized knife. I am just not a big fan of that size knife. I feel it falls into no-man's land a little too much. I prefer a good combo with a small knife that does small knife stuff way better than a mid-sized knife and a larger knife like a DFLE or Scrap-Weiler concept that does larger stuff way better. Most mid-size knives are decent at a wide range of tasks just not great at much of anything (IMO).

I would actually probably rather have a DMLE for a mid-sized one knife do it all knife than the S6.

And I feel the S6 has too big a guard. And even though my SJTAC has even more details that I feel need correcting, I just like my SJTAC a little more than the S6. I like the blade shape a LOT on my SJTAC. I would like a Scrap Yard with a SJTAC/SFNO/Mud Razor type blade and some slight/subtle guard tweeks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Obviously, opinions will vary. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> - I can except that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

That's a great knife, too. I guess if I had to pick two Scrappers, the SS4 and DFLE would be the ones. But if I had to pick just one, it would be the S6. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I agree the SS4 and the DFLE are the 2 tops of the scrapyard line. I even satin
finished my SS4 as well and added a zero edge. I also see them as the perfect combo. If putfile had not screwed up my page I would show my own set of satin
SS4/DFLE pics.

That reminds me I have to PM Rainwalker <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Very nice, Doug!

Inspirational!

My SS4 came with a blunt edge, wouldn't even cut cardboard... got some Wet & Dry, convexed the edge and finished on a strop loaded with green compound. Don't think I'll stop there now, after seeing your pics...

that...is...SEXY!!!!!

i have to agree, that SS4 is one of those "perfect knives." if/when dan releases the ss4 in sr77, i won't feel bad about passin up the infi version. 3" would be nice, too.

I love my SS4, too, but I left it black since it had that cool logo on it. They do look great in satin. Maybe one day we will see one in 0170-6SY. That would work!

Since I already have an SS4, I would rather see a SS-3.5" based on the AD and with mudder grips.

SS4 on top and SS-3.5" Concept ( ??? Scrapper Duty ???) on bottom:

[Linked Image from i80.photobucket.com]

If the SS4 has a 4.1" blade from top of mudder grip to tip, the SS-3.5" would have about a 3.5" blade. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> and more spear point like the AD.

Personally, I would "WISH" for this in INFI and SATIN. Sorry... not real interested in SR-77 for this size knife.

Definately SR-77 for the Scrap-Weiler though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
