My very first Spyderco. Came in the mail a few days ago. Got this to replace my Emerson Folding Kbit.

My knife collection has become a bit more humble lately. Due to bills I ended up canceling my order for the Kershaw Volt (dang that is a nice knife). Some time ago I puchased a Kershaw JYD II CB blem. Besides the XXXX on the blade I can find nothing wrong with the knife anywhere and it ended up being close to 1/2 price. Nice bargain.

The knife itself is a 'liner lock' but really is more of a frame lock with an outer handle of G10. It opens extremely fast and very smoothly for not even being an assisted opener. The 3.75 inch blade's shape is really nice for a user knife, it has a flat grind and a seemingly strong tip. The blade steel is CPM-D2. I have to say I am really liking it. The edge stays very sharp and does not require tons of effort to sharpen. (I had a ZDP189 blade that I could not get a satisfactory edge on.) I like the knife design enough that I am thinking of getting the smaller 3" frame lock version.

We bought a home that needed some major renovations recently. I always had two blades on me--a cheapie folding utility knife from Loews, and the Kershaw Tyrade. The Tyrade saw waaaay more use and TBH, I did things with it I never should have done with any knife. Prying up embedded nails, digging deep inside walls to scrape out brackets/staples, using it to leverage some other tool, dig out rusty screws, and on and on and on. I can't explain how proud I am of it--I had several occasions where I'd hear a snap and go "oh, that was it, I finally broke the tip/edge," only to pull it out and find it was fine. I know this is why people buy their ZTs and Hinderers and Striders, but I can't justify the expense of those right now and, for the $100 I paid for it, I can't explain how impressed I am with the durability of this thing. It is a champ and I am probably never leaving home without it again. I don't like that it sorta scares people, but I feel prepared for anything with it.

I'd post this on a Kershaw forum but apparently none exist? Silly.

It's nice allright, but I'd rather see it with machined G-10
rather than the checkered.
Plus colors.

Wow that's a great review.I have 2 but haven't used them yet.Mainly because they are too big for edc for me.
I was wondering about the durability of the bonding of the 2 steels.I'll have to take the orange camping now. Thanks for the info.

Now imagine that puppy in Orange. *drools*

We just need to taunt Roger or Thomas to get a special run going, if they don't have it in mind already.
