If they made this one with a non-serrated blade and a corkscrew in place of the reamer, Victorinox would have me sold.

That's the reason I passed, the serrated blade.

What's the difference between Victorinox and Wenger?

I'd like that one too, even without the corkscrew. Never used a corkscrew much anyway......

I had the same question, so I have been researching them. Wenger is actually owned by Victorinox. They bought them about 5 years ago. Both seem to be quality, according to reviews.

That's my woods SAK and I have a smaller one for daily carry.

JJ, from the looks of the serrations on the blade it wouldn't take much time or effort with a diamond hone to remove them. And you wouldn't really loose enough blade I wouldn't think to worry about. I have a small classic (I think), about 2 inches long with a blade, sissors, nailfile/flat screwdriver that I turned into a warncliff straight cutting edge and it's still fine, plus the needle tip really digs in for splinter removal!

So, despite the lemon that Horn Dog seemed to have gotten, I stuck it out with my HEST Folder oder. Here it is!







First, mine is a smooth and easy opening folder. It locks up solid and is quite a stout knife for its size. My complaints are that the "fix" for the point being out of the handle when closed is a bit of a ghetto fix for such a pricey knife. They (I assume Lion Steel) simply ground the tang of the blade and left bare metal where they ground it. See here:



My other complaint is that the edge of the blade comes uncomfortably close to the back of the handle when closed:



I've scraped the tip of my finger once on the edge when picking the knife up off of my night stand.

Overall, I really like the knife, though. It has what I would call first production flaws. I'm sure they will work out the kinks in future runs. Also, based on customer service that I've seen, I'm sure they would take my knife back to at least address the nearly exposed edge when it is closed. However, I don't care to potentially send this knife to Italy to fix it. As long as I don't press my finger on the back of the handle when it's closed, I'll be fine.

my HEST folder was a lemon… kinda bummed. i probably wont be seeing it for a few weeks. oh well. as long as its good when it comes back.

My HEST has been great. I just pulled it out to look at DL's comments and mine doesn't have the close to the finger feel. I can't tell the tang issue. I will say this, the blade has rode in my pocket since getting it, opened bottles, cut a variety of materials, accompanied me on a few day hikes, and I grab it first thing every morning. I may have got lucky, but I love the knife.

Don't get me wrong. I love my HEST Folder. In fact, it's in my pocket right now. The way I see it, the knife just has some "kinks" that were oversights in the first production run.

The HEST/F definitely has some issues. While the second one I got is fine, there have been many problems that should not occur with a knife in this price range, IMO. I have 3 ZTs and several Benchmades. I think I'll stick with them from now on, at least in folders. I don't know why I even care, anyway.
