I am done (mostly) the SH-E and have started work on the Desertjack and boy can I notice a difference between working with INFI and SR101. SR101 feels appreciably harder than INFI and is harder to work with. INFI is a pure joy to sharpen and polish.

INFI is great to sharpen. Definitely more towards AUS-8 than 154 CM in terms of workability. I love the stuff and must have more...

That looks great, Gideon. Seeing how much work it is to smooth out that ASH-1 blade makes me think I'll leave the coating on mine, for now. Beautiful edge on that mutt. Thanks Vic. Yes, that ASH blade will take a belt sander to smooth out. I might just send it your way if it irritates me Thanks for the compliment on the Mutt's edge. Coming from you, it means a lot. Your knives are all beautifully sharpened. I've also heard from Jeff that my ASH's sheath has shipped, so now my wife won't get me off the ceiling untill it arrives. Can't wait! I'm such a child Yours looks much better than mine that I just stripped and convexed, and I used a belt sander. After seeing how rough that blade was, I just went for the funky CE look. I'm not likely to ever try another satin finish on a big knife. It is just too much work. If I want a satin one, I'll buy it that way. I'm sticking to doing convex edges. Maybe I'll send mine to you for finishing.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I'm sticking to doing convex edges. I agree, since putting convex edges on the ASH and DMDC I will never go back. In fact, I suspect my Lansky sharpening system is now obsolete. I ran my Doug Ritter folder over the strop a couple of times on Sunday and it's perfect. Much faster and more effective than the lansky. I am a convert. Maybe I'll send mine to you for finishing. I might just keep it That Sasquatch is starting to look very pretty too me!

Very nice pics, Gideon. You've given me some great ideas. You are most welcome. I did a lot of research on the web, both here and on bladeforums and one day just decided to do the convex edge. I wanted to build a strop that would take sand paper, then just thought about the sanding block - much easier and it has clamps to hold the paper. I wanted to buy a cheap blade and practice, but then thought what the hell. I took the sanding block and just ran the blade over the soft rubber for about 15 minutes, both sides, just to get the muscle memory correct and then put the sand paper on. No problems. Just watch out for too much pressure and keep the angle small. I barely lifted the spine - maybe about 10-15 degrees. I started with 320 grit to shape the convex, then 600, 1000 and 2000 girt followed by the strop with black and then green compund. Once the edge is formed, it's easy. Just use patience and keep at it.
