There has been a rumor going around the Yard that there is going to be a Dog Bowl coming soon. This might explain why we have seen Renee running around between the dumpsters. Could she be collecting items for the Bowl?

If ever a Bowl was needed...

Good luck everyone (unless there is one INFI S7 available in which case I hope you all get p.c. viruses!)(Except Dan obviously..)

+1, but I think it is going to take more than a dog bowl for the yard to recover. Definitely a step in the right direction...

Don't worry ,take as much time as you need.

A CPM154 necker would be nice though, but we don't really need any more Sr77 knives. Something like the SAR5 but thinner and made of CPM154 with a really sharp edge would be cool. That steel s awesome once you get an edge on it.
I hope they come a bit sharper from the yard though because the steel is quite a challenge to work with. Amazing job on the heat treat!

Make it a combo set; Unsubs' suggested SAR5 style knife, with a Scrapyard Axe! I'd buy two sets! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I think the Dogs will be pleased to see what is coming down the road in the near future. The Yard is strong and will continue to be so.

Any kind of timeframe or ETA we could possibly give will be wrong and users get very disappointed when ETAs are missed. That's the nature of ETAs, they are always wrong. And due to the fact we won't release something before we feel it is ready, any ETA is even more likely to be missed.

Yep. I think this disclaimer posted by Ted is appropriate.

I am incredibly tired of all the "is it knife time yet?" threads etc so I can only imagine how annoying it is to try to get work done while deluged with them especially when they start actually preventing you from getting the knives out.

You would think some people here were waiting for a kidney rather than a knife.

I have dealt with suppliers and sometimes things happen and deadlines cannot be met. putting a bunch of pressure on them only makes things worse.
All you can do is trust that the people you are working with are doing everything they can and let them know you trust them to get things going as quickly as possible. I have found that when you are reasonable in a situation like that they really go out of their way to show you that your trust is not misplaced.

A bowl shaped blade? Perhaps a Nessmuk-type deal? Or an actual bowl for feeding out of?

I don't think I have heard a release referred to as a dog bowl... Is this bigger than a single release? Is it like a Ganza? or is it unknown until Dan tells us what it is?

I think a Dogbowl is (just) a Yard Ganzaaa.

Don't hold your breath for vast numbers of different knives to appear..

I've only seen a couple of these, but in the past, a dog bowl has referred to a ganza-style release by Scrap Yard. I don't recall a multi-model bowl before, but I think this one could be because it's been long enough since Scrap Yard knives were released that there might be small quantities of military-overrun remainders as well as the tan Yard Keepers, MPLEs and BDLEs that were sold at Blade, but didn't make it to the online store.

Dog bowls are typically "scraps" in that there aren't enough of a model to do a full release, but there are a few that will be sold in the order emails are received and until the supply is gone.

Hopefully some of the time has been spent touching up the edges on the 154 steel knives. The Muppy i had was good but the HCLE's were set up with edges more suited to crashrats. All it will take to get people to love the 154 is a wicked sharp edge from the yard.

Glad to hear the Muppy is better, my HCLE has the worst edge I've ever seen on a knife including heavily used army surplus stuff.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

Speaking of INFI, it appears that the new HACK from Busse Combat is a 5.5" OAL tiny necker size knife. What a shocker!

HACK = HOG Apprentice Custom Knives

They go on sale once the NMFBMs come down. There should be lots of "one off" custom models as well as a regular lineup of Micarta and G-10 handled knives.

The HACK is cool, especially the mammoth scales. I might pick one up depending on the price.

i've been wondering exactly what dan meant by "dog bowl" myself.

was it in relation to a bowl like one you eat out of since we are currently malnourished at the moment with a severe SR77 deficiency or does he mean a bowl of some sort like in football....superbowl,rosebowl,puppybowl..?????

looking forward to it all the same.

Personally, I'm not fond of serrations. Just give me some nice plain edged beauties, and I'll be happy!

I'll divulge my share of the serrated to you Adamlau, and you can give me your share of th PE's.... Deal?

I used to only like plain edge but I have come around again on GOOD serrations like the spyderedge. I would like to try the busse serrations on something thin and sharp. I especially like how they put them at the front. I hate half serrated though. I want all PE or all SE.

Tyger you can't not think this is cool?

I hate to have to tell you Unsub, but yeah I don't like it. When I see it, all I think is the extra time it's gonna take to sharpen it over a regular plain edge. I'm horrible at resharpening SE's, but real good at doing PE's. Believe me, I've watched videos, read books, and practiced, practiced, practiced. It's a real bother for me to sharpen those serrations, so I avoid them.

Now, if I had this guy hanging around to do nothing but sharpen my knives all day, then I'd buy serrated! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

i find them to be too 'SPECIALIZED' for me.

a serrated will work great some of the time but a plain edge will work at least good all of the time.

since massad ayoob designed that its probably for self defense maybe???

i would like a knife like that for SD or something specialized like for cutting thick rope or fibrous materials.

the sharpening thing is a kicker for me though.

Full serrated edge fan here! Particularly on cutting edges under four inches. uick and easy to touch up along Sharpmaker rod corners. Very quick, actually. I will be sending in the Nuke EDC for full serrations on Tuesday, hope to get it back sometime in 2009 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> .

I got my second Skinny yesterday, I got it in OD green when these came onto the store site. It makes a nice matched pair with the FFBM and I will probably keep these "painted" and use them as is. If the finish looks a bit beat up I will live with it. The colour is good to stop glare and going to a strip job and then doing a bead blast finish is a lot of work for a smarter alternative.

I will do that with the other Skinny....but want to take the grips off to do it...and am still sourcing some bits to enable me to do this.

Here is a pic of the FFBM and Skinny

Those two look very good in green, SF. I wouln't strip either one of them, especially if I was a soldier. That green Skinny ASH1 is a perfect combat knife.

A dog bowl? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

This first for Scrap Yard Knife Company is wonderful news! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The Dogs are chaffing at the bit for some kibble and a "Bowl" of wonderful miscellaneous blades is just the kind of fun that we all need! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

What a great idea Dan.

Three cheers for The Yard working so hard to bring it all together for all The Dogs. I do not think you will have ANY trouble selling out ALL of the blades offered. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Great news Dan, thanks! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Peace.

Having family there, is there a way that they can own firearms for you to "use" while you are there or to have around?

If they have firearms available, I would imagine that you are much less nekkid than the average tourista.

Godspeed and have a good trip.

JB, if your in laws reside there and your wife is SA carrying a pistol should not be a problem. There is a great gunsmiths in George ( there is only one )....on the garden route...give him a call and tell him your situation...I found him really helpful.

Her Pa is an Ex South African Police officer & has a .38 special snubnose but I'd love to pack along with me my Walther P38 or .455 Webley (both family heirlooms)
Travelling by Air one can't take handguns but I will certainly pack the Skinny or S6 into my hold luggage. Much as i'd hate to be in a situation where I felt I needed something to rely on I know i'd be happier with a Busse kin if the SHHTF
Serious, SA is not a safe place out in the "boonies" Such a shame.... : (((

Guys - Dogbert was banned because he made an obscene comment directly against Dan's honesty concerning the DogBowl. That behavior WILL NOT be tolerated on this forum. No matter how anxious, frustrated, or angry we may become, everyone is expected to be respectful on this forum. I am sorry to lose a new Dog, but that's the way it is. Yes, he SHOULD have realized it. Like I said, I'm sorry to lose a fellow Dog, but that kind of conduct will not be tolerated and dealt with severely. Please believe me when I say that niether Chris nor I enjoy banning someone, but will do the job when needed. After all, we are fellow Dogs too! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

PK there is no need for you (at least in my eyes) to explain your actions or the actions of the MODS. Like it or not sometimes things have to be done.

I think more than enough has been said and we should look forward to the Dog Bowl and the great delicacies Dan has been preparing for us....

Maybe no need, but nice to know the general gist. the mods here (from what I have seen) work very hard to smooth out situations. I assumed when someone got banned it was a deserving move.

Thanks for the update PK.

For the newbies and the rest of us who forgot ( <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" /> ) a DogBowl is a knife sale. Similar to a Busse Ganza (the Boss likes calling them Dogbowls here).

One or more blades are for sale in the company store. A notice is usually posted by Dan here; first a 48 hour notice/post, then the next day a 24hr one of the rough time it will be (give or take a couple hours).

It is usually first come/email first serve and they usually go pretty fast!
Good luck to all who try <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

+1

I think the mods do a good job here.

I am very confident in them having just reasons for doing what they did.

And I don't "feel" they owe us an explanation.

But, providing the reason is nice. It helps keep everybody on a clear page without needing to speculate or have conspiracy theories.

Based on what appears to have been done, I can't argue with the decision made. And feel everyone else should be understanding of the decision.

I don't know Dogbert. He may have been a great guy (????). If so, I am sorry.
But, we should all know without being told, that type of behavior is intolerable. Dogbert himself should understand.

.

Hi, I'm new to the yard. I have been reading the forum for several months and have learned a lot, thank guys. I have yet to post until now. I have bought a couple of swamp, scrap and busse knives on blade forum and I'm starting a small little pile of knives. I was trying to figure all this out before I stared asking questions or contributing but I don't want to miss getting a knife or two. My first questions are regarding the dog bowl. Will we be notified a date and time it starts and how long does the feeding frenzy last. Will the offerings be on the order site?
Thanks

Welcome Koda. Nice to have you here. This will also be my first Dog Bowl. I'm thinking it will be like a Ganza, if so, you will be notified price/pics. Then when to put your order in. If not, then I guess they will be in the store. Enjoy!

Welcome to the "Yard" Koda!

we will get a date, and time (like I said in my previous post, read up)

it will last as long as blades are available, sometimes weeks, sometimes minutes!

Will we be notified a date and time it starts and how long does the feeding frenzy last. Will the offerings be on the order site?
Thanks

Welcome to the Yard Koda <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Dan usually gives us a 48hr followed by a 24hr notice of what is being released. The feeding can last a few minutes to a few days. We expect a Dogbowl very soon and because the bowl has been empty for awhile I expect it to empty quickly.

Good luck!!!!!

This will be my first time ordering direct from the Yard. What I have I scored at Blade and through the help of our friend Horn Dog as well as the exchange. My question is,are the knives ready for deliver when you order them or is it more like a Busse gaanza where your order is confirmed but not delivered until completion of your knives. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Koda - Howdy and Welcome to the ScrapYard! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Our fellow Dogs have answered your questions quite well. As this is a Holiday week-end, we should hear something Tuesday about the upcoming DogBowl. Dan always posts previous notices, to give everyone a chance to get ready. And BE READY - it turns into a feeding frenzy!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Tom

In the past the bowl was knives on hand, usually leftovers from military orders. Might be some S6s, DMs or some MPLEs or BDLEs from Blade. Of course, I am just guessing, cp. Usually Dan will annouce what is available before the bowl and the numbers are usually small. I suppose it is possible a new model will be available. They are usually done by email. Good luck to all you hungry dogs.

Just to add a small comment to what others have been saying, I have no idea what quantities will be released, but if I was giving odds based on past experience, I'd say it's much more likely that the bowl will be empty in minutes than in hours, and days would get small odds indeed. I've only seen one knife last days; it was released around Christmas (when money was tight) and priced at about $180. If you plan to buy anything, you probably shouldn't be at the movies when they drop.

For a pup on his first scramble for a bone, i take it's just a mad dive to the order button via the website? In your experience is that how it works? I am sure somewhere in a thread the answer is tucked away. But for those who might be interested it might be nice to see again. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

Whoever has the jump and gets multiple copies, please keep this horny, I mean, hungry dawg in mind. I am looking to score my first bone! I'll be really pissed if I miss out on an order since I've been dawging this site for days now.

Dog Bowls are typically done 'ganza-style. Whatever will be available is announced in 48-hour post followed by a 24-hour warning (with prices) post. You get your order email ready and wait until you see a "Go" post by Dan to send it. Orders are filled in the sequence emails are received until the quantity available is exhausted. 2-3 days afterward, people start getting notices about what (if anything) they got, you pay, they ship.

Of course, the rules change from one to the next, so this could be a totally different game; we'll just have to wait and see.

Jim the Yard-Hook lasted weeks in the store! (we were surprised) But I would guess your right and things will go pretty fast.

The night of the DogBowls many are here waiting for the word, watching like crazy to see DumpsterDan's thread saying "Now Available" or "Go GO GO" or whatever he chooses but "HIS" thread! (some will try and fool you!)

You can not order the knives until he says you can (no knives in the online store!) and when the store says; "out of stock" that's it.

We have had computer/server glitches in the past, things have shut-down or not worked! And the Yard/forum is still running slow! fun fun <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

Stop bumping this thread up so high! Gotta keep this low profile for us bad dawgs (such as myself <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) who want to limit word of the Bowl in order to gather the blades of our choice! Muhahahahaha...

I just do a "save as" with pics from my browser. Or, sometimes I do a screen capture by pushing the print screen button, then pasting into MS Paint and saving it.

I expect her to post what she has found for a Dog Bowl...she is a sneaky one

I'll add one thing to WD's post. If the release takes place through the store and you're able to place your order successfully, make sure you print out a copy of the invoice BEFORE you complete your transaction. You may need it for future reference.

If you won't be near a printer at the time you place your order, PC users can go to Download.com and download a program called PDF ReDirect. It's free and it works. When you install it, it sets up a new virtual printer. When you select it and print, it creates a PDF file you can save to your hard disk or removable storage device. It's an indispensible program for those who don't own a copy of Adobe Acrobat Professional. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Mac guys, just Print and then Save as PDF, it's built into the OS.

I totally forgot about them. Unfortunate timing on that release seemed to be a big issue -- Mini Mojos and Uncle Mojos, in both CG and EH3 overrun versions, had pretty much satisfied the recurve market. I've picked up a couple in the secondary market (as well as a tan military overrun YH from Knob Creek), but neither Guards nor Hooks caught my interest when they were initially released. I stand corrected, they did stick around for a while.

I just want to make sure I have a rough Idea of how this potential race to the bowl work, releases are typically posted on the forum and items bought through online store? A quick race to the buy button? Man I hope he waits to release the bowl after lunch and my plane has landed. I am really excited at the prospect of buying my fist scrap yard. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Two cents from a young pup who is new to the yard. I would like to see the use of S7 with a larger blade (DF or scrapper size ) offered. Since I'm new, a traditional scrapyard would be nice for me but anything scrapyard puts out is nice. For a new blade how about a Kukri blade. Has scrapyard ever made one?
