Depends on the latitude doesn't it? Not sure how it really works, but here in Utah tree line is around 10,000. We have lakes at 10,000. In the Uinta's and Wasatch mountain range, tree line is about 10,000. It is way below 10,000 here. I think we left it slightly before the 5000 mark, maybe even 4500'. I think HD is correct about the latitude affecting it, as when I went up the North Canol the hills had progressively lower tree lines. you live in an extremely beautiful area cold one.i wish i lived somewhere like that.maybe when i retire at 49...{TEAMSTERS PENSION}...i would think the ONLY drawback of living up their is the extra long travel time to the BLADE SHOW...lol.i remember you told me how long it was but i forget.made me feel lucky to only be a yankee.
the highest mountain in new york is in the adirondaks and is only 5,300.
did you see any good wildlife??
what do you guys have out their for wildlife anyways?? It was a decent trek to blade 08! Took a day to get to the east coast and then about 4 hours to fly down. Lets see.. Wildlife... Other than Tikka & some bird we were skunked on the wildlife! We did see a fair amount of signs though, moose tracks & dropping as well as coyote & fox droppings. I had my bear deterrent with me, so perhaps Yogi thought better of a visit. As for wildlife up here, to name the big stuff: Bison Elk Cariboo Moose Mule Deer Then we have a bunch of wolf/sheep/goat sized critters.

Very neat pics Chris! Thanks so much for sharing them. That looked like quite a climb. Always good to have company on a hike like that, both dog and people friends. I hate hiking across loose shale. Feels like S L O W motion.

Awesome pics, ColdOne. I haven't tackled anything that massive before, but it looks like something that would take your breathe away, due to the amazing scenery (No pun intended on the altitude! LOL!) Pretty cool finding the claim tag up there.
BTW, what breed is Tikka? Something about her reminds me of my Border Collie.

Kraz - Between the lousy footing and thinner air it was extremely slow going!
Gambit - Tikka does have a lot of expressions, kind of cool really.
tyger75 - Yeah, funny thing being we have never tackled anything more than a hill before and decided on a whim to go after a real mountain. Note to self - build up to something that big instead of jumping in feet first!

Chris,
Sherry and I both enjoyed the pictorial of The Yukon Trek".
Magnificent country you have up there I must say. The lack of Cell Towers,Telephone poles,High Tension Power Towers, and Billboards come as quite a shock. How in the world do you people up there keep in contact with each other? No fancy ads for products I'll never buy,and people....where the heck are the homes?
All kidding aside that is just breathtaking. The pictures I am sure do NOT do it justice. I can only imagine what the air quality is like on a mountain like that. No jet fumes, factories, smoke stacks and busses and trucks belching out their noxious nasal pudding.
It's no wonder why you love that country so much. It is gorgeous. I am so grateful to you again for sharing the whole trip with The Yard. I know in my home we all had a great time talking about them and Tikka's antics.
Thanks again my dear friend it was a great treat for us all!
Peace & Co.
